Samsungs latest TV sets built cameras spark concerns

i don't normally read the daily mail or any daily newspaper to eb honest, but saw this as a post on facebook

They could be right if there is no way to disconnect the microphone and camera is is going to raise concerns. Maybe there should be a cover that can be closed over the camera and the microphone. Saying that I can't see the microphone picking up much when the T.v itself is on as the sound from the speakers will over load it anyway.

If i need to buy a new T.V I would think about getting a large monitor instead, but the price of them is so high that I would have to go for a T.V instead, but i know one thing it will nto be a smart T.v

sigh... you really bought that story (and that's all it is, a story) hook line and sinker!

every laptop has a built-in webcam and microphone, do you hear everyone worrying about sony, samsung, acer etc watching what you are doing ?

use a bit of common sense!

No they don't, you can still get laptops without a webcam and microphone and even then it is easy enough to disable them by removing the drivers. My laptop got a webcam, but i don't have any drivers for it, mainly because installed Linux on the machine and there are no Linux drivers for the webcam

I have also got a webcam for my desktop that I use for skype, but I must admit I unplug it when it is not in use.

i am not worried about them watching what I am doing at the moment, but you never know what may happen in the future with more and more people connecting more devices to the internet.

What you failed to see is this
This software allows Samsung to recognise who is viewing the TV and personalises each person’s experience accordingly. The TV also listens and responds to specific voice commands.

so if it can do that, how do we know where that info is stored, what info is got from the T.v itself, including where you live?

i got no interest in Smart T.Vs myself, I think they are just another way to get people to pay out more money for something will not use just like 3d, but many people will buy them and may connect them to the net and not realise that their T.V have a camera and microphone.

I don't understand how a T.v with a camera can personalise each person experience, after all all you do is sit down in a chair and watch the thing.

got plenty of that, but it seems that many people don't and will give all their personal information to anyone.

Kind of explains why walking around naked, the channels keep changing. Seems to be some gesture controls involved somwhere

I don't think it'd be a good idea to watch porn on that TV...

There's a technical solution to the camera problem, a piece of black pvc tape

Simple option is not to connect the TV to the internet. Mine isn't and it's not connected to the gas either.

What's more worrying is the voice activation. I could say the wrong thing to DH and it might select a guilty pleasure.

This is exactly why I find the Daily Mail to be very cheap and very long lasting arse-wiping paper and hamster cage liner!!!

I suppose if you didn't buy it, you wouldn't even have to use it for that and could give your hamster and arse a treat?

You are not looking at the big picture, yes this may be over the top at the moment, but we don't know what will happen in the future. we are tracked on many things we do these days, it would not surprise me if they find a way to see what we are doing in our own house at some point.

Believe me, wiping my arse on, and having my hamster rip up, Paul Dacre's bigoted blood-spitting works really gives me a sense of satisfaction
