Mine is Depeche Mode. Even though I've only been a HUGE fan since August 2005 their songs sum up my life perfectly and IMO there's no other frontman alive today who comes close to Dave Gahan. He just blows me away!

I found this recently and I have already posted it a couple of times in a thread or two. It is a live studio version of "Need Your Love". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuVcp_XbaTI And to the OP's question of why. For me no other band comes close. Perhaps Free? |

Mine is The Beatles. They were so unbelievably talented and I honestly can't think of a song of their's that I really hate.

Fleetwood Mac
Fantastic back catalogue, great singers, great songwriters, sublime harmonies, excellent musicianship. |

Totally agree about Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac... their in terms of talent Peter pisses on everyone in the industry. Wasn't such a fan when it changed though.

Arctic Monkeys, always loved them and how they always create such solid albums.
Foster the People, I adore Torches, what an album! Shame the singles are starting to lose momentum in the charts though! Scissor Sisters too, shame Shady Love wasn't released properly. So excited for their Calvin Harris produced lead for the next album. |

The Dutch band 'Focus' - they've been my first love since 1971. Why? - because it's the most glorious music I've ever heard, played by the best musicians I've ever heard/seen.

U2 - because they have the spirit and the muse in them; three classic albums and at least one of them wants to change the world.

I've had many many favorite bands, but in times of stress or strife I've always resorted to playing Songs From the Wood, Heavy Horses, Bursting Out and Aqualung, so I guess it's Jethro Tull.

U2 - Put this ridiculous "save Africa" crap aside... incredible live during the 80s, went abit downhill after the 90s but still stuck out some good songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFVVa...eature=related 1:00 to skip Bono talking sh*t. Sunday bloody sunday & Pride (in the name of love) Oasis - Two incredible albums in the 90s, personally prefer Definitely Maybe... Slide Away and Supersonic two of my favourite songs. The lyrics really related to alot of people aswell. Still produced good songs after DM and WTSMG aswell... The Masterplan album was still good with Masterplan and Acquiesce. The Beatles - Do we even need to discuss this? Just look down the list of bands they managed to inspire... George probably my favourite Beatle, Here comes the sun and my sweet lord are great songs. As for Paul, talented... but gone completely senile down the years. Kissing The Jonas Brothers arse and appearing on the X Factor confirmed that. Led Zeppelin - No better musicians out there... they are pretty much the ultimates when it came to playing instruments. Jimmy Page is an incredible guitar player and John Bonham is probably the greatest drummer of all time. Communication breakdown, Immigrant song and Black dog probably my favourite songs. The Smiths - Such catchy songs... There is a light that never goes out, this charming man, panic, hand of glove, stop me if you think you've heard this one before etc. Johnny Marr is criminally underrated in the industry. The Rolling Stones - Love the classic rock... under my thumb, brown sugar, start me up, satisfaction etc. Only problem I have is Mick who seems to have completely lost the plot over the years, kissing that Will.i.ams arse I could go on forever but shoutouts to The Stone Roses, The Jam, The Verve, Dire Straits, The Sex Pistols, Depeche Mode, Joy Divison/New Order, Buzzcocks, The Ramones, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Blur, The Who, The La's, The Clash, Status Quo, Radiohead, R.E.M, Queen, Primal Scream. There's a hell of alot more but I would be here forever.... they sh*t all over Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and all of todays mainstream music anyway

Is the question favourite band or greatest band?
Greatest first... Queen No band (besides Led Zeppelin) had four incredibly talented members. There is no Ringo Starr in Queen.. no passengers. No band can touch them live, No band has has the back catalogue they have. They have inspired and influenced every genre you can think off. Their songs are covered by just about every act on the planet, and more than any other. They are the first band (and only one of two ever) to have all four members inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Freddie Mercury - every other frontman can take a backseat as no one can touch him. Live Aid he destroyed everyone. Songs written; Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love, Don't Stop Me Now, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and We Are the Champions. Brian May - virtuoso guitarist, hand built his own that deliberately produced feedback. Came up with We Will Rock You, and if Steve Vai states hes "walking on a higher ground".. then we listen. John Deacon - came up with Another One Bites the Dust, and produced one of the greatest basslines in rock, Under Pressure. Roger Taylor - came up with Radio Ga Ga (inspired the name of the biggest pop star in the world), and has collaborated with a whos who of rock musicians. While i acknowledge that Queen are top dogs, the big cheese, numero uno, my own personal favourites are Aerosmith (I dont want to miss a thing is as close to perfection as you can get) |

I'll go along with that. That day, Freddie was not only Queen, but King too.
