I can see why she would release him in exchange for the girls when the alternative is he is killed before Robb returns to the camp but they could have done this after she hears about the boys. As to Qhorin and Jon.

Blimey doesn't it just.
I do hope they show the battle over two episodes, it sounds like it's well over by this episode. I'm a bit nervous about how they are going to show it to be honest. Also a bit sad that it sounds like they aren't going to have Tyrions chain. |

Per GRRM, they changed the battle to make it more accommodating for the TV series.

Does anyone know if they are planning to use the Dondarrion / Brotherhood without Banners story arc at all?
(Haven't seen the most recent episode so apologies if it was referred to in it at all!) |

The Brotherhood without Banners was referred to in the most recent episode but nothing further than that.

It was referred to in the first Harrenhal episode too, so it's been mentioned more than once. Plus we did see Dondarrion get his orders from Ned back in season 1.
They have to use it in some way, at least, given later developments... |

Personally, I'm on board with every single change they've made so far. Indeed, for the most part, I think the changes are an improvement on the books' plotlines. |

I imagine that they will need to spend a bit to make The House of the Undying as good as it should be!

Am I the only one who hated the House of the Undying stuff in the book?
I don't hate Dany, as such, but I've got to be honest a lot of her storyline arc got right on my nerves The bits where she gets the unsullied were about the only parts that made me really like her, I like some of the characters surrounding her, mainly Ser Jorah, although that is more down to Iain Glens performance than anything from the book. Whenever she is onscreen I just kind of want them to get back to Westeros. I do think the changes they have made to her storyline in this series have improved things a lot. |

(Just his luck.)I think they've made Dany look like a stroppy brat in the series - way too much like Viserys for my liking. In the books, she was regal and admirable even when she made mistakes. Don't mind the changes to the storyline so much as Dany's behaviour through them. |

Oh I thought she was a stroppy mare in the books as well Snozz, I think that if she says "I am just a young girl and know nothing of matters of war/politics/whatever else" one more time then I will have to kick GRRM until he promises to stop it.
I don't know I could just never see why anyone followed her, she is brave but her morals, not to mention common sense, are all over the place. The way she got her army was bad ass in the extreme but then all the later stuff paints her as some kind of saint who wouldn't hurt a fly. I suppose I will just have to wait and see if she picks up a bit in future episodes. And I agree about the Jon Snow stuff being a bit tedious sometimes, he's never been one of my favourites either. I wonder why I even like the series since a lot of the main character bore me or annoy me but I just can't help myself loving it. I miss Viserys, he was a quality nutcase. It is a bit worrying that most of my favourite characters are a bit sociopathic.

Dany got on my nerves from the moment the dragons were hatched. She became vaguely interesting when she aqcuired The Unsullied and then went beyond annoying into 'I wish someone would kill this woman' once she got to Mereen.
I love the Jon Snow storyline for a couple of reasons, I find whats happening in the North more interesting than Kings Landing and it seems to me that Jon's story arc is going to include the twist that concludes the whole story. That is if the final events of DWD aren't set in stone. I'm still quite stubbornly rooting for the Starks. Arya in particular, cos she's my fave. |

Oh Arya is my favourite too but I do have a soft spot for Sansa.
I know there is something wrong with liking Sansa but I just do. |

The way they've portrayed her in the TV show is much more sympathetic I think. Will be interesting once they get to the later books to see how they go with her character. As for the HoU, yep totally agree, apart from the foreshadowing it provided through the visions, the visit itself was tedious in the extreme. |

I always liked Dany in the books, seeing her as a young girl who had to find her feet very quickly. One moment she's just chattel to be bartered, the next, someone who feels a lot of pressure (she thinks) as the last of her line and someone with a strong sense of destiny.
I also like Tyrion, Brienne, Sam and Arya's storylines. |

Bumping for thread merger.
ETA: T'other thread got dumped methinks and this one's popped back up. Anyways, will bring up the discussion we were having in the other one regarding Manse Rayder. Who would you like to see play him if they decide to cast and use his storyline and do you think we're likely to get any of his story this season or will they wait for next season. |

I think he would make a good Northerner or Wildling so good call
he could also play a good Iron islander, well impressed with Patrick Malahide as Balon although when i read the books i had someone in mind like the guy who plays the late Walder Frey. |

And he'd have to juggle with Once Upon A Time assuming that gets another series.
Refresh my memory - what do the books say about MR's background? I don't remember anything. He could be from anywhere. |
