3D channels on a regular tv set
Not sure if any one has asked this question before, I have a Samsung 40" LED tv, {Not a 3DTV}. I have Canal+ 3d and when I turn this channel on I get the usual split screen story::
I am just wondering if there is any unit on the market that can turn the split screen picture into a real 3d picture!

There are 3d adapters - look at www.3dfury.com but they are not cheap. I think there are two other makes of 3d adapter but I can't remember their names.

The whole point of 3D is that you need to see one image with one eye and the other with the other.
There are two ways of doing this both of which require a 3D TV. The side by side picture is used to create two frames by expanding them both to 16:9. A passive TV uses a polarised screen to send odd lines to one eye and even to the other (halving the vertical resolution) An active TV shows one frame after the other, the glasses have shutters controlled by the TV so that the each of the pair is only seen by the appropriate eye. |

Have a look at -
www.3dnow.com - another device that's on the way for turning normal TVs / projectors into 3D capable ones. |

No No Just stop thinking about it. 3d requires double the frame rate to do correctly, your tv just doesn't have the hardware to do whats necessary, from the double frame rate to the turning split screen into two full frames, then theres the issue of active glasses or passive glasses, both require your tv bedesigned to work with these from the get go. The only possible thing you can do is to somehow convert it to Anaglyph image 3d which is horrible, and what you find on 3d dvds, its the only solution that fits on 2d sets. Like 3d comic books, you get a gimmick, not worth actually bothering with. |

I expect the OPs tv is a 100Hz set so a 3d adapter would probably work OK but in my opiniion not worth the effort/money. 3d 40" tvs aren't much more than the adapter + transmitter + 2 pairs of glasses. Maybe even cheaper!

If it's one of the Teknika own brand TVs then I feel sorry for you. It's so bad they've even taken it off their own website if your link is anything to go by

Honest to god eh. What is it with these forums. It seems if you don't own a Panasonic or Sony brand then your frowned upon. People purchase the brand they can afford. Not everyone is prepared or can afford to spend £1000+ on a 3DTV. Aslong as it works, who the hell cares.

The Technika TVs are truly hideous in my opinion. Ugly design and very poor picture. However, I appreciate some people don't have the same requirements when buying a TV, they just want as big as they can get for the least amount of money. But just because it was cheap doesn't mean it's a good TV or a good deal. I was happy to spend more than double to get what I would call a decent 3D TV. And when you put the two together you can clearly see the difference and tell what double the money gets you in picture results. I personally could not sit watching a TV like that as I would just feel I had wasted £400/£500 as I know I would not be happy with it. Call me a snob for that if you like, but you have to be happy with soemthing you will be spending quite a bit of time watching. I will also admit that own brands aren't always bad, and the cheap DVD players are perfectly good for a second TV. But I'm glad the chap feels he got a bargain and is happy with his TV, that's what is most important as it is just personal preference (he might not like my TV!!). |

I can't imagine a lot of people on here owning a B&O product. The point i'm making is that most users tend to go for Panasonic or Sony and besides, I didn't say that those were high end products either but it seems to be the choice of most buyers or potential buyers on these forums. All i'm getting at is that it seems if a person asks about buying a new tv and mention the cheaper products then there's all ways someone that can't help but take the p*ss. oh don't buy that model/brand because its shit or whatever. So what. it's their choice. It's all down to personal taste as the other person said.

You spend money on expensive furniture, and nice wallpapers, and good hardwood flooring or nice carpets, then why would you mix in a cheap nasty looking TV?
trying to save a few quid on a own brand TV only to have it fail 3 years down the line, while spoiling your living rooms look for 3 years before it does makes little sense. you paid £400.00 for that TV, why not spend £500.00 and get a nice looking one. just because its big and has 3D and freebies extra, doesn't just make it a good deal. Its better for me to have a TV that looks good..first...then quality and ability are second..brand is a personal opinion but its well known that Sony, Panasonic, LG and Samsung make good TV's its well known Tesco make cheap shit! John lewis sell branded TV's and give 5 year warranty they will have based that on the quality they sell, do Tesco offer 5 years on crapnika! after all they commission the TV's what does that say about Tesco s own confidence in quality? let alone the customers. And when was the last time AV forums or Which reviewed a supermarket branded TV? Too many people overlook the aesthetics of electronics in combination with home decor, it can really make or ruin a rooms look. reminds my of my step dads, TV 2 meters up the wall with wires hanging everywhere, £30.00 and I relocated it to eye level and hid all wires and it just transformed the room. a little bit extra money makes a massive difference. |
