Could Alexandra Burke become one of the major icons of our times?

If she got the right international push would she be able to surpass the icons of the last decade (Britney, Christina, Beyoncé) and all they achieved to become a true icon of our times?

Does she have what it takes to make that leap? I'm not talking about one hit song, or even one album charting high, but in 15 years will people still be talking about her as one of the stars still making waves. Will she still have albums charting at number 1 all over the globe in 15 years?

What does she have in her arsenal that could help her on her way, or if not what will hold her back from this goal?

WTF did this come from? She has the talent and potential. Her material needs to catch up and also, proper promo. Once that happens, she'll be fine. Also, launch globally. You can't do anything from the UK alone. I think RCA are launching her properly, UK wise, they really put the money in promotionally, it was only radio that messed up the single launch.

I really like Alexandra, but it's practically impossible for ANYBODY in this current media climate to get more popular than Britney and Christina were around 2000.

I think she definitely has the potential to be a seriously major UK act down the line. She just needs someone to give her that international push like Adele, Leona and Jessie J. Alexandra is determined so I think she will achieve her dream of international success.

Unlike so many artists out these days, she is not a one trick pony and this works in her favour. I think she could easily become the next UK sensation to make waves in the US.

In my opinion...currently...no. At the moment, she is 'just another singer' who can hold a tune!

Is this for real? Or parody of the Burke fans?

It's nothing other than another desperate attempt to slam Alexandra. It's funny how some people can have so much support for 1D, Adele, Leona, Jessie J etc going international and representing the UK but somehow Alexandra will 'never' do it.

Pretty decent effort, as parody goes.

I'm equally indifferent to all of those so am not arsed. Don't get the fan obsession with cracking America, doesn't change how you enjoy the music. It shouldn't anyway.

If you want my honest opinion, I think she will end up having a hit or two in America, but like the others that you've listed I believe that success in America will be fleeting and in 5 years none of them will have careers in America and in some cases in the UK as well (apart from Adele that is, her music doesn't pander to the fickle pop market in the same way). There's nothing that suggests to me that she will achieve anywhere near the sucess of the likes of Britney, Christina or Beyoncé...although some Burke fans think she'll easily surpass them.

She's a manufactured pop puppet and not many British manufactured pop puppets have long lasting careers in the US and I doubt she will be the one to buck that trend, America already has enough of those.

I don't know if she will become an "icon" but she is very talented and can become a global star with the right material.

I wouldn't say she's a puppet. Her material has made it obvious she isn't. She has a mind of her own, but syco, as they did with Leona, were restrictive. If she was a success, she could hook up with US producers, and have a bigger budget. You can't have that from the UK alone. She can be massive, but not at this rate. She needs to get a bloody move on! I'm sick of waiting.

Sick of waiting? Why can't you be happy enjoying her music? I don't understand this weird competitiveness.

Because some fans want to see her become more successful than she already is. I would love to see her take her music internationally. If she doesn't then it won't stop me from appreciating her music, but who doesn't want to see some one they like do well in the industry?

I wouldn't wish failure in any of my favourites but I don't fret about them cracking America. Im too busy listening to their music.

I do, but the amount of US commentators saying 'why is she not in the states' is sad. Because she certainly has the talent. Seeing new singers arise and have hits in the USA faster than her, is sad. She fought to get the record deal, and hasn't been treated right by her label, and as a fan it's irritating to see. She has many fans in different countries who have had to wait for almost 4 years to get material from her. 1D have just topped the billboard 200. Well done to them, but that's what I mean. Her talents v theirs. Her launch could have been perfect, the promo for 'singing with Beyonce' etc.

She's been floating since she won X Factor - not overly successful but not a failure either. She needs to relate to her audience more. From what I've seen...people either don't like her or they don't have an opinion on her. She is talented, there is no denying it, but there isn't anything that makes her stand above other artists.

I'm a massive fan of Alexandra, but she'll never be an icon. That just won't happen and in my opinion it's ridiculous to think that it will. Artists who become icons usually start to have success very young. I think she'll easily become the top UK artist without a shadow of a doubt. Hopefully if RCA do things the right way, she'll be successful in the U.S and all over Europe too. The main thing letting her down is her music.

What will hold her back -

1) Shes not unique, shes a copycat singer.
2) She has no great songs to speak of that people will remember her for, just bland x-factor type music
3) She was on the X-Factor
4) Not likeable enough, comes across to the public as a bit of a diva.
5) Too much competition with all the other million singers from these 'reality talent shows'.

What can she do -

If she can write killer tunes she may have a chance... and going by Elephant.... she cant!

In a years time i predict she'll be doing I'm a Celebrity or Strictly.

Yeah it's not all that great. 'Start Without You' was awful and 'Elephant' isn't much better either. The only thing that saved that song was its the killer hooks.

You know the rest of the world doesn't give a shit about where you come from right? Kelly Clarkson and J Hud as examples. And her music has been some of the best (Along with Leona, and Rebecca) to come from XF. The UK public...if I were her, that wouldn't bother me. Who does she copy vocally again? There is also no such thing as X Factor type music. I doubt she'll ever be on Strictly or I'm a celebrity She has a rammed schedule according to her brother, hence the reason she's on holiday.

I thought it was, SWY. I liked it, well I did listen to that sort of music as a child. It's the same with Watch n Learn, a lot of Rihanna fans don't like it, but it's my favourite song from TTT. People said that about Twilight from Cover Drive too.

It is currently sitting at 14 on iTunes...so it will probably fall on this weeks chart.
