Oh dear...
It didn't sell very much to get #3 anyway. Less than 50,000 copies I heard.

It will be lucky to make a 100,000 in total won't it. Not good...considering The X Factor gets...what...8 million viewers! Does this tell us that the show is 'more entertainment' than anything else?

That's generally what #3's sell in the UK. 43k wasn't too bad to say it had no airplay.

The X factor isn't even on now. It will sell over that. And her success from now on has nothing to do with the show. She's just another recording artist.

Back when I was a lad, an artist would have to sell 700,000 to get to number 1. 43,000 is nothing really!

i wish you would give up on this silly crusade against cowell. its becoming petty and hypocritical considering your love for pwl.

time to take your own advice to be honest.

I despise Cowell and his TV shows. He has no credibility at all...along with Walsh. They are not a musicians, singers or record producers. They are just money man!

many people say similar things about pwl and you politely tell these posters to leave your thread alone. what`s the difference to what you are saying here and in numerous other cowell related threads?

Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman are musicians, composers, writers, arrangers and producers...that immediately gives them more credibility. Are Cowell and Walsh musicians, composers, writers, arrangers and producers?

my question was not about credibility. its a question of how some people have the nerve to slag cowell and his colleagues relentlessly it seems. while it is obvious they are not fond of any criticism of their favourites and discourage such opinions in their own threads.

If she can write killer tunes she may have a chance... and going by Elephant.... she cant!

In a years time i predict she'll be doing I'm a Celebrity or Strictly.”

Well all this applies to one direction and Leona Lewis and it didn't stop them from having a bit of global success. I don't see why Alex should automatically be barred from trying to achieve something similar.

You obviously didn't see the 'crack America' thread where posters commented that the boys wouldn't be able to crack an egg never mind the US. Most of this forum want them to fail really.

And in regards to Alex, it's probably because she is an XF act, sadly many people don't take her seriously due to this.

I think Alexandra has the potential to have a bunch of hits in America, she just needs the right material.

I think All Night Long would do well in the US.

I know Bad Boys and All Night Long had the potential to be massive in America. I was really angry when Syco kept delaying the US release, eventually they went and scrapped the plans all together. I'm glad she's finally left the abysmal record label that is Syco..

I hope with this new album, she releases it and promotes it globally...starting first with Europe and Asia.

Not based on anything so far, she hasn't done anything memorable. The best she can hope for is some decent airplay and sales.

An X Factor pop puppet with average songs, a "major icon of our times"?? What a ghastly thought. Proof that people really will blindly follow hype.

People on here talk as if she has a divine right to get no.1 singles, huge sales, and massive promotion & airplay, presumably just because she was an X Factor winner. How deluded can you get?

I don't think she could reach icon level. Alex has got a good voice, but isn't getting enough promo. She could make it in the us but she'd need to work with top people. Personality wise the American audience will either love or hate her.

The XF is irrelevant. That is the problem. Look at her as a recording artist. That is the UKs problem. Everyone views it from a silly angle, when the world doesn't. And I wouldn't say she's a puppet. I wish people would stop saying that. It's clear that she isn't.

This is true. Although I hated their music with a passion at the time, it can't be said that Stock, Aitken, and Waterman weren't responsible for actually creating their own music and flogging their own music. (Bearing in mind that they heavily borrowed bits)
I believe that Waterman was the PR man in the same way that Simon Cowell is, and Stock and Aitken were the creative forces. But correct me if I'm wrong here.
I believe that Pete Waterman was also Simon Cowell's mentor and personally showed him the ropes and taught him what he needed to know in order to become the Simon Cowell we are now aware of today.

Cowell in his own words has admitted that he knows hardly anything about the creative process and that with him it's simply about what he thinks he can make sell.

Well I have a problem with the terms 'crack America' or 'conquer America'. It seems like a very British thing to do to think of America in those terms.
To Americans they are probably just another band of the moment.

Lots of British acts sell records in America. But I would hardly describe it as 'cracking' America.

I would imagine that when many people speak of an act 'cracking America' they are talking more in regards to long term success. Like The Beatles, U2, Depeche Mode, or Coldplay.
It remains to be seen if 1D ever attain that kind of level of American success. I think it's a bit premature to proclaim that they have 'cracked America' because they have had a hit record.
