This is true. Although I hated their music with a passion at the time, it can't be said that Stock, Aitken, and Waterman weren't responsible for actually creating their own music and flogging their own music. (Bearing in mind that they heavily borrowed bits)
I believe that Waterman was the PR man in the same way that Simon Cowell is, and Stock and Aitken were the creative forces. But correct me if I'm wrong here.
I believe that Pete Waterman was also Simon Cowell's mentor and personally showed him the ropes and taught him what he needed to know in order to become the Simon Cowell we are now aware of today.
Cowell in his own words has admitted that he knows hardly anything about the creative process and that with him it's simply about what he thinks he can make sell.
