They have one thing on that list.... likeablility, specially one direction amongst young girls.

I believe that Waterman was the PR man in the same way that Simon Cowell is, and Stock and Aitken were the creative forces. But correct me if I'm wrong here.
I believe that Pete Waterman was also Simon Cowell's mentor and personally showed him the ropes and taught him what he needed to know in order to become the Simon Cowell we are now aware of today.

Cowell in his own words has admitted that he knows hardly anything about the creative process and that with him it's simply about what he thinks he can make sell.”

Fair enough.

By and large I would say you have it about right. I'm not sure of the relationship between Pete and Simon, to be fair.

Re: BIB...musicians and composers have been doing that since time and memorial...haven't they?

No.
Karaoke singers don't deserve the acclaim.

No. The term 'icon' is thrown about far too regularly these days as it is.

Please tell me this is some sort of attempt at a joke?

Alex is one of the best vocalists that UK has to offer and her talent should be commemorated.

The saddest thing is some are so stupid to actually believe that. She got her break on XF and people don't like that.

If you're saying that Alex's talent should be commemorated, you make it sound as though we should hold a memorial to remember its death.

That is how that word is usually used.

Well as a student of literature and language myself, it can be used in context to praise someone or show respect

But I was just trying to state that Alex's is talent is greater than most UK Female soloists.

Hopefully if RCA do things the right way, she'll be successful in the U.S and all over Europe too. The main thing letting her down is her music.”

Sorry, what? You seriously think she'll 'easily' become the top UK artist? I've got no clue where you ever came to that conclusion, because it's ridiculous.

I'm an English graduate and commemorate isn't quite the right word. Commemorations involve memorials or celebrations, they involve a tribute to an event of significance. Which doesn't apply to a 23 year old pop singer.

Her talent and potential. She still hasn't peaked. As long as her material catches up and improves and they market her properly (which RCA seem to be doing better than syco) she can be, over a long period of time.

Yes, she has talent and potential, how does that explain saying she'll 'easily' become the top UK artist? Sorry, but please explain that.

You cant just say talent and potential. Adele is the same age, has the talent and potential and is currently a million miles ahead of Burke in the music world with the records she's breaking. That's just one person too, you could probably name quite a few more too, so I don't get how you came to the conclusion that Burke will be the top UK artist with ease.

If she was released globally. She wasn't. Adele had that launch. I think he means long term i.e hits etc. I don't know, as the poster yourself.

Well apparently she will "easily" overtake the achievments of the likes of Britney (including 100 million album sales and 14 years at the top of the charts)...makes me wonder what she can't do "easily"

76m actually. And 100m records. 76m albums. She hasn't sold 100m albums at all. Alexandra has sold 4m in two years here, and if she was properly launched globally she could easily sell 100m by the time her career is over. Jessie J sold 11m records in one year. It's not as hard now as it used to be.

Adele's music is painful, it actually makes me wonder if the world is under some sort of depression.

How many copies of the same depressing album does one person need?

I was wondering when someone would pull this argument into the debate. Americans prefer strong confident women who are bubbly and full of personality, they don't expect women to be puppets stringed by Cowell and his team, sorry.

And their live performances should showcase this, hence why Rihanna is such a success...she's not the best but she does put plenty of energy into her performances, it connects with the viewers.

I could see her becoming a Icon that would rival the stature of Lisa Scott Lee, Louise Rednapp and 1/4 of B*witched.
Combined!

Icon?

I think some people need to look up the meaning of the word.

So wait Britney has only sold 24 million singles? That means less than half a million per single worldwide? That does not add up! Apparently Britney has 100 million physical sales, that does not include her digital sales!
