I loved the song too and would definately buy an album of theirs.
The first soloist had a really beautiful voice and I was a little disappointed that the panel didn't really say anything individual to him.
Brilliant chior.

The song is a Welsh hymn/song called Calon Lan which is sung at most rugby internationals. I am surprised Simon hadn't heard it. I have and I'm not Welsh and don't watch rugby!

I've seen the conductor somewhere before, is he from Only Men Aloud or at least related to someone from there?

He is the conductor of Only Men Aloud and some of that choir were in the audience at BGT. As far as I can gather, he wanted to start boys' choirs and asked the OMA singers to run the choirs. There are, I believe, ten separate choirs in the area.

I got all this from Songs of Praise which they were in a couple of weeks ago.

That's interesting. I was really blown away with the way he'sbrought all this together and the boys think it's cool to belong to a choir. He must be a really inspirational person. His shoes were a bit of a mistake .
I was in tears tbh and not because of his shoes either.

Only Boys aloud were brilliant. Made me proud to be welsh.
Calon Lan is one of my favourite welsh songs. And they did it so well.

Tim Rhys Evans is hugely inspirational.
Along with Gareth Malone he is one of my heroes.

Tim has worked with a passion to keep welsh male voice choirs going and to update them with a modern feel.

He is not only the conductor of Only Boys Aloud and Only Men Aloud but their Musical Director too and he puts a different modern musical feel to the songs that they sing whilst keeping the ethos of the male voice choir.

The harmonies of Only Men Aloud (the parent choir) are fantastic and their live stage shows are fabulous.

I cant praise Tim enough - he is amazing.

And now he is auditioning for an Only Kids Aloud choir!

What he and Gareth Malone have done for choirs and music and singing is wonderful.

I hope Only Boys Aloud get through to the next round - they so deserve to.

The only criticism I'd make of them is the presentation was rather gimmicky with the emphasis on image as much as the music, dressing them up like One Direction ie. wearing shirts and ties but jeans and runners as well alongside the 1D haircuts. Clearly this is aimed at the teenage girl voters.....perhaps the image and staging is the idea of Cowell and his minions, and not the choir?

I think its more to do with the boys themselves.
And trying to keep things modern.

If Tim dressed them up in suits and ties - like the older male voice choirs the boys might not be so happy to join.

Tim has worked hard to try and make singing in a choir "cool" for these boys..

I thought they all looked great - and they felt and sounded young and modern - whilst still keeping the male voice choir tradition.

It's still slightly odd to see a choir where the emphasis appears to be as much on image as the music. They looked more like an oversized boy band, than a male voice choir

I think Eurostar's point was that it's rather gimmicky to have them wearing ties when they're otherwise casually dressed; open-neck would look more natural. But personally I didn't worry about their appearance; their sound was fantastic.

The whole thing seems rather gimmicky and aimed at pulling in the teenage girl vote. They appear to be a standard male voice choir (though a very good one), but are being marketed more like a boyband a la One Direction. It's slightly odd, as normally with choirs the emphasis is supposed to be 100% on the music and the singing.

I thought they were great! And I normally hate choirs .. but these guys looked so enthusiastic and could actually sing really well, as opposed to just being in a choir to get on a reality TV show, irrespective of natural talent (or lack of). I expected to be irked by the sentimental hard luck story promotion excercise, but they were so good I forgave them for the way they were presented, which is out of their hands anyway. Very enjoyable, surprisingly good!

I do agree they are a strong choir with excellent harmonies.

It's just that I sense the grubby hands of Cowell on their image and staging, he's obsessed with finding acts for the teen girl market

i find it odd that they are on bgt when they have been on the bbc.. i thought the idea was to find people who have not been seen or heard before.. i will get out my crystal ball.. just waiting for the mist to clear.. i can exclusively rveal they win bgt and perform for the queen in her jubilee year.. well done boys..

They're young and at that age they care about how they look, I know I have a 12 year old obsessed with how he looks. The whole reason that it works so well is because they're reinventing the choir to be cool.

Im a welsh girl living in England now and I love a good welsh male voice choir and these boys were very good, I cried and I think my very English hubby shed a little tear.

ONLY BOYS ALLOWED ... TO WIN !!

Yes, I'm shouting, I'm shouting it from the hill tops and proud to do so. Can anyone say that they weren't moved by their performance? To see young lads produce the sound that they did? An orchestra of young male voices, I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, can music get any more beautiful than this?

If you haven't yet guessed, I loved them and I want them to get to the very top. If the Military Wives can do it then so can these young lads from the Valleys. The best act I've ever seen on BGT.

They were fantastic. I have a bit of Welsh blood in me. My grandparents on mum's side were Welsh and I have an uncle there too.

And I agree with you. They are the most deserving. I am sure there will be other acts to come and surprise us but these are already my favourites and will remain so until the end I think.

As I said at the time, this is almost exactly like the Circus of Horrors auditioning last year (a group which had already played the Royal Albert Hall.)
These are meant to be unkown acts. At this rate, they might as well go the whole hog and start auditioning Status Quo.
