This Mortal Coil singer Louise Rutkowski is making a new album and financing it through Pledge Music check out one of the new songs for free follow this link.
At 19 Louise was signed to CBS Records, recording three singles and an album with legendary soul producer Pete Wingfield, but it’s her work with cult independent label 4AD for which she is best known. As part of the This Mortal Coil collective, Louise’s distinctive voice can be heard on the seminal Filigree and Shadow and Blood albums, and as lead vocalist on The Hope Blister’s critically acclaimed 1998 Smile’s OK album. These projects established Louise on an international scale and secured her a dedicated fan base.
Louise also performed in The Kindness of Strangers, with Moulin Rouge composer Craig Armstrong who was signed to US label Interscope Records, recording the highly regarded album Hope, with tracks produced by the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Bjork/Madonna co-hort Nellee Hooper.
In 2001 she released 6 Songs on her own label, Jock Records, exploring the surreal world of Randy Newman. Louise is currently working on original material with co-writer Irvin Duguid for release in 2010.
“The majestic Louise Rutkowski, who along with her sister Deirdre gave This Mortal Coil some of its most sublime and haunting moments…..a silken purity and grace that is just astonishing.” Hot Press
“Singer Louise Rutkowski offers beautiful re-readings of David Sylvian and Heidi Berry… Smile’s OK exists in the unusual territory of measured good taste.” Review of The Hope Blister, MOJO
