Had a search to see if this already existed, but nothing came up so I went for it!

DM are my ultimate favourite band. Love their stuff so much and could listen to it forever. I feel they were at their best between 'Black Celebration' and 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion'. Have Depeche Mode 101 on dvd too and I think the footage from the Rosebowl gig was amazing. I would've loved to have been around then. I think they've been very underrated by the UK, which is a shame.

Surely there are other fans of them lurking somewhere? Hardly anyone I know has any idea who they are

I agree, I love DM and I only know one other person in real life who knows who they are

I was a massive fan back in the day, mainly because I had a massive crush on Dave!

You only have to watch the 1989 movie of their Stateside tour 101 to see just how sexy he looked in those tight jeans!!

He looked great in that film, I love the backstage scenes with the band

A DM appreciation thread with only 3 posts (and 2 of those concerning Dave's bum)?

Saw 101 again on telly the other week, it's been years since I've seen it, so it was great to see it again.

Speaking of DM, anyone got S-S-S-S yet? I heard the first single and was utterly underwhelmed by it, just wondering what the rest of the album was like?

lol

Haven't heard S-S-S-S but I did hear Dave's collaboration with Soulsavers, but I found it quite average tbh

Me too. I wish there could've been more footage of the band raher than the bus kids - I found them quite irritating!

Definitely, especially the camp blonde guy and that couple with the blue hair. I bought 101 on dvd yesterday.

I know there are not a lot of comments in this thread but what DM songs does everyone like?

My favourites would include: Strangelove, In Your Room, Everything Counts, Barrel Of A Gun, I Feel You and Enjoy the Silence.

Excellent I got it for Christmas the other year. Loved it! I watch the gig disc more than the documentary though.

I love so many of their songs! My top rated ones include

+ Shake The Disease
+ Stripped
+ A Question Of Time
+ Walking In My Shoes
+ Clean
+ Strangelove
+ Policy Of Truth
+ John The Revelator
+ Wrong
+ I Feel Loved

But my ultimate favourite is Never Let Me Down Again.

I've recently done a bit of a re-evaluation regarding the Mode. I hated Wrong when it was first released but after finding a rather splendid remix of it, I grown rather fond of the track. Also favouring Some Great Reward, followed by A Broken Frame as opposed to previous favourites Speak and Spell and Violator.

current most played Mode tracks

1. Wrong (Trentemøller Club Remix)
2. I Feel Loved (BOT mix)
3. Something To Do (Live)
4. Lie To Me
5. People are People (Different Mix)
6. Stories of Old (SOTU Studio Sessions)
7. The Meaning of Love (Fairly Odd Mix)
8. It Doesn't Matter
9. The Sun and the Rainfall
10. Shout (Live in Hammersmith)

I can never properly decide which album would be my number 1. It's either Black Celebration or Violator, but I think Violator just has the edge.
But then Songs Of Faith And Devotion has got some great tracks on there too, particularly 'Mercy In You', 'Walking In My Shoes' and 'In Your Room' (although I much prefer the single version to the album version).

I'd say that SoF&D is one of my least favourite DM albums. I just don't like the production, the emphasis on a more rocky sound was their undoing IMO. Having said that, Wilder's sound hasn't really progressed since that album but it was interesting hearing his remix of In Chains, which sounded much better and more DM than the album version. It's a shame they couldn't bury the hatchet but he's not returning, instead they've got Hillier back for production of the new album.

The first time I heard/saw the SOFAD stuff I didn't like it. I was put off by the whole new style, but I kept relistening and it grew on me a lot. By that point Dave had the bad coke habit and had been taken in by the US grunge scene and wanted the rockstar status - and they were pretty much falling apart as a band anyway. I think Wilder left at the right time, because he could see the decline. I'm not a fan of his Recoil stuff, but I don't think a return to the Mode would be a good move for him anyway. He was there when they were at their best, and that's how it should stay imo.

I listened to it a lot during the 90's but I don't think it's aged particularly well, there is some good songs on there but they're just drowning in that production.

I never cared much for Recoil either btw.

I could listen to DM all day everyday and not be bored. They never get the radio play they deserve (speaking as a radio presenter too) whether it's new stuff or old stuff.

Favs include:
Never Let Me Down Again
Policy of Truth
Behind The Wheel (remix)
Fly on the Windscreen (first version as on b-side of It's Called a Heart)
Leave In Silence
and the aforementioned Lie To Me is my ultimate DM favourite.

Saw this thread and just had to post this!

Love old Depeche Mode, all the early stuff like 101 and Black Celebration. Went off them around the time of Violator though I bought Sounds of the Universe.

The only two I've ever heard on the radio are 'Just Can't Get Enough' and 'Enjoy The Silence', but more JCGE. I think that's their token "radio-friendly" song.

Love 'Wrong', but that's it. I thought 'Peace' was absolutely awful, yet Martin thinks it's one of the best songs he's ever written

I've never heard a DM song on the radio, although I have seen their music videos on TV, but it is always either, 'Just Can't Get Enough', 'Enjoy The Silence', 'Everything Counts' or 'Personal Jesus'.

I think Music For The Masses is my favourite album, followed by Violator and Black Celebration. I didn't mind some of the songs on Sounds of the Universe, but I didn't like the music vid for 'Hole To Feed'

Weirdly, I wasn't impressed with MFTM yet it's got my ultimate favourite on there as well as 'Strangelove' and 'Nothing'.

BIB - I know! What in the world was that?!

I actually prefer the single version of 'Strangelove' and I hope Anton Corbijn will direct their next videos and the members will actually appear in them.

I initially heard the single version of 'Strangelove' and didn't like it. Then when I listened to it again on the album it grew on me and fast became a favourite. It was the opposite with 'Behind The Wheel' though. I thought the single version had a lot more life in it than the album version.

And yes, Anton did do good videos for them. I think the black & white spin he put on a lot of them worked really well.

The only albums I couldn't get into were Ultra and Exciter. I found them both quite dull tbh

That was bizarre

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJGW9zmyo-Y

Stumbled across this a while back. Don't really think there's much room for variation on "I Feel You", but it was mad hearing a heavier version.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNezg...eature=related

This one made me laugh, although there's another guy out there who did DM covers and they were hilarious! Can't find him though

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68vttSsr-ds

This one was just terrible imo. Awful, awful stuff.
