DV editing - help please
The missus has managed to video her grand-daughter's birthday party with the back-light compensation activated
.I only have Pinnacle Studio 7 SE & the exposure/colour editing features are disabled. Just had a quick look at the Pinnacle site & it looks like an upgrade to version 9 Plus is going to cost me £40. Is there a cheap/free download that will allow exposure correction on the captured footage? If not, is the Pinnacle upgrade a good move or would my hard earned be better spent elsewhere? |

You can use virtualdub and a choice of filters. You will also need to download and install the free panasonic video codec before virtualdub will be able to open your DV file. Links to both of these can be found in the tools section at www.videohelp.com |

OK, I've installed VirtualDub 1.6.1 & the Panasonic Codec. I can open the AVI file in VirtualDub & I've added the Brightness/Contrast filter from the Video menu. But nothing happens. No matter which filter I add there is no change in the AVI file. Is there some magic trick to applying the filter to the AVI or am I just being studid?

In virtualdub, select audio->direct stream copy, video->full processing mode. Then, again under the video menu, select filters, click add and select the brightness/contrast filter. Still in the video menu, select Compression and choose the panasonic video codec. Finally go to file->save as AVI. Give it a new filename and let it run. Obviously this will require enough disk space to save a file the same size as the original. |

Bugster
It was the "Preview Filtered" option I was missing. I was expecting to see the filter changes occur on the original file "on the fly". It's all beginning to make sense - slowly. Guess I just need to play now!
Thanks very much for the initial pointer & bearing with me. It's very much appreciated |
