Mad Men Season 5 - US Pace

As there is not a separate list for the people watching at US pace and UK viewers are getting spoiled I though I'd start a thread where we can discuss events with a clear conscience

That didn't take long to get back into! I like the ending. They'll have to hire now, won't they, making them look very avantguard

Good start to the season. Established Don's Marraige which is more lust then love. Roger was good how he just skated over meeting Joan and the baby without making it awkward. Pete Campbell looks more ambitious then ever so I think he will have a interesting story line this season.

Megan & Don's relationship is definately interesting and Peggy's face when she was dumped with Joan's baby was a picture

Joan's baby isn't Roger's though is it?! I thought she had an abortion

Edit: and then obviously got pregnant again by her husband this time

OK, but you wouldn't be allowed to watch. You're too old. She doesn't need an old person.

She went to the clinic (not for the first time, we are told), saw a young girl go in and talked to YG's mother, who was along for moral support. The parallels between the YG and herself were left to the audience to consider - including a telling phrase from YG's mother. On the bus home after (what?) she appeared to have reached a decision that satisfied her.

if the baby had white hair, we'd know for sure , but the implication was clear.

It has to be Roger's anyway... hasn't her rapist husband been overseas the entire time? I think we also saw her on the phone to him some time after the clinic visit, telling him she was pregnant and claiming it was his.

Roger? We need to talk about baby Kevin.

Roger knows that kid is his. But what a line he had when he came marching out of his office saw Joan and Kevin and said "there's my baby now move brat out of the way so I can see her"

I say this a lot, but... I adore Lane.

Did Pete know that he got Peggy pregnant and that she had the baby and gave it up for adoption? I can't remember back that far.

Yeah, she told him a couple of seasons back. That's why he blanched when he saw her pushing the pram, for a split second he thought she'd brought their child into SCDP.

In the next episode, Alison Brie should sing a song in French.

Has Joan's husband been in Vietnam all this time? Didn't they give troops leave in those days?

I don't think they'll have to. That was the clever thing about collecting the CVs and saying that they would be in contact: if they don't want to hire, all they have to do is send each applicant a letter explaining that they didn't meet the requirements. Although from the dramatic aspect, I assume that this storyline will actually lead somewhere.

Actually in general I found the opening episodes a little disappointing. It had all the traditional MM elements - Don was moody, Joan's bust was fantastic, everyone smoked and drank - but it all felt a bit nothingy. Maybe it was just about setting up new stories and it will get better. I hope so.

At some point I wouldn't mind seeing Layne and Joan hook up. They have good chemistry, and Layne would certainly be a better partner for her than that scumbag rapist she's married to.

I think that Layne is in for a relationship with that girl in the photo. He'll probably regret it though, because I have the feeling that her boyfriend is in reality a rather nasty bit of work.
