Self References in Songs
Me in my obliviousness completely missed Madonna's 'Lucky Star' reference in this line of 'Give Me All Your Luvin' until it was pointed out to me:
In another place, at a different time You can be my lucky star Another exists in Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 'Revolution' in which she sings: Face to face It's murder on the dancefloor Cut to the chase Just give us what we came for What are some you've caught and what is your favourite self reference? |

Glass Onion by The Beatles from the White Album is rife with references to other songs of theirs.
I told you about strawberry fields, You know the place where nothing is real Well here's another place you can go* Where everthing flows. Looking through the bent backed tulips To see how the other half lives* Looking through a glass onion. I told you about the walrus and me-man You know that we're as close as can be-man. Well here's another clue for you all, The walrus was Paul. Standing on the cast iron shore-yeah, Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet-yeah. Looking through a glass onion. Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. Looking through a glass onion. I told you about the fool on the hill, I tell you man he living there still. Well here's another place you can be, Listen to me. Fixing a hole in the ocean Trying to make a dove-tail joint-yeah Looking through a glass onion |

In 'Push You Away' P!nk references 'Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)':
I know I said, “That you don’t own me, just leave me alone (I’m lonely)" I wish you’d never listened to me…. |

Obscure:
One of Steve Harley's songs had the line, "All men are hungry, who said that tonight?" All Men Are Hungry was a song of his, from Timeless Flight I believe. |

Doesn't Britney also say 'My loneliness ain't killing me no more' in a song, possibly Stronger?

Madonna - Hung Up references Love Song (feat Prince) from the Like A Prayer album with the "time goes by so slowly for those who wait" hook.
Britney Inside Out references BOMT and Drive Me Crazy in the same lyric. |

Phil Oakey sings the line "This is Phil talking" in the Human League's 'Love Action'. That was supposedly inspired by "Jesus, this is Iggy" from Iggy Pop's 'Turn Blue'.
And Bo Diddley wrote a song called...'Bo Diddley'! |

`girl gone wild` is littered with former lyrics, from the start, the spoken intro are lyrics from `act of contrition`. she then references `erotic`, `bad girl` and even the `hey ey ey ey` could be a steal from `express yourself`.

Mary J. Blige - Family Affair. She references 'No More Drama' from the same album
It's only gonna be about a matter of time Before you get loose and start to lose your mind Cop you a drink, go head and rock your ice 'Cause we're celebrating no more drama in our life. |
