Well, it's allright - apparently they made some background checks - - - and came to the conclusion that anyone would be safe in that household, let alone a child???

It beggars belief that a social worker would walk into Phil Mitchell's house and allow that child to stay there just because Shirley is a godparent.
Anyway even if Darren can't be contacted what about Heather's mum or Darren's family? Surely they have stronger claims to George than Shirley, who didn't even want him around when Hev was pregnant. |

Agreed, all that and yet they wouldn't let Amy be around Derek.

That was the stupidest background check any social worker has ever done in the history of the world!

Hasn't Phill been declared innocent on almost everything whereas Derek has just come out of a 10 year stint for armed robbery?
And yes being ruled innocent means everything, you can't just say "You can't look after this child because you were once a murder suspect in a case that turned out to be a suicide." |

Don't forget Shirley once used to be a alcoholic when she first came into it, swinging on vodka bottles and shouting at her own kids

Absolutely preposterous. Phil's got a criminal record, Ben's also got one and has a history of violence. Shirley abandoned her children - and I also think that she may have a prison record, herself; because she's always dispensing advice about how to behave in prison. Darren may be off in the wilds, but what about Rosie and Keith, who were always good carers. Or even Dawn and Garry?

Unbelievable that they would leave a child in a house with Phil and Ben who both have records. Darren has parents, two sisters and a brother...couldn't they find any of them????

It's just terrible research.
The boy does not HAVE to live in Albert Square. He would go to properly vetted foster carers |

I agree, totally unrealistic, what about Keith, Rosie, Demi, Mickey, Queenie - are you expecting us to believe the POLICE couldn't fine ONE of those people (I would think Keith at the least would be on benefits and Aleesha would be in school by now).
Plot device to make Ben and Jay go nuts, no more no less. Once he's served his purpose he'll be collected offscreen and Shirley will get over it surprisingly quickly. |

At least Roxy is Amy's mum, Shirley being his godmother may be some sort of relationship but it's not legally binding, and there's Patrick too.

I suppose. As long as the social workers make it clear that this is only a temporary arrangement until they can find Darren

What a jerk is the writer who thinks George would be allowed to stay with the Adams family.

Phil been in and out of jail, Shirley a two bit lush who walked out on her own kids. Good foster parents. Pathetic scriptwriting.

It is unreal they wouldn't do it, he would be placed with a temporary foster carer until his father or other relatives are found he would not be place in a house were most members have a criminal recorded and history of violence they simply don't hand the child over there would be severe background checks and monitoring if they where ever to consider it.
