Baby One More Time vs. Genie In a Bottle
Britney and Christina have had massively sucessfull careers and have both released brilliant pop songs in there time but who do you think started on the stronger foot?
For me it would be Christina; I liked Baby One More Time but find it very old now whereas I can still listen to Genie In a Bottle and still enjoy it and I do think it's always been the better song though I won't deny what an impact Baby One More Time and it's video had |

definitely Baby One More Time, its iconic, the video, the opening 'dum dum dum', the dance routine, the outfits, the setting, even britney strumming her pencil on the desk at the beginning, i think all of it is iconic.
Genie in a bottle ive never understood, its not a great song, the video is rubbish including the outfits, the dancing, even christina's blue net curtain top lol....although i do think Genie 2.0 is one of the better remixes, reimaginings, reworks or whatever u wanna call it of a song ive heard ....and im definitely a bigger Christina fan than I am Britney |

Well, I'd say BOMT was a "stronger" debut in that it summed Britney up perfectly and her career has kept quite true to it...whereas I don't really associate GIAB with Christina as much because she has evolved beyond recognition and has since said that she wasn't happy/comfortable playing the part back then. To me, Christina is Stripped and Back to Basics.
In terms of actual song, guess it depends on what you prefer. I feel GIAB would be more likely played today (home/party/radio) than BOMT because it sounds a little less "90s kids party", but there's no denying that BOMT is a classic. Albeit not a timeless one. |

Oh...that's so hard!! They're both probably the best pop tracks of the bubblegum era ( I don't know why, but I love to refer to that time period this way
)On the one hand, 'GIAB' has an urban vibe to it and Christina's vocals take this to a whole new level. On the other hand, 'BOMT' has one of the most anthemic and iconic choruses of all time, everyone knows that melody!! I can't choose. I prefer the melody, the lyrics and the video of 'BOMT' and the vocals and production of 'GIAB'. Fair enough?

Whilst i love both and both have aged.
It will always be Baby one more time its iconic more so than GIAB the video the song everything about it was huge and still is brilliant and it made her into a bona fide superstar from the off and made her the youngest female ever to have a million seller in the UK with 400,000+ in one week it was and still is one of the best pop songs ever and was responsible for te teen pop revival of the late ninties early noughties and allowed for Xtina et al to follow on GIAB it has a more mature slant and whilst good she has had better and is not as iconic or defining as BOMT |

Definitely Baby one more time, such an iconic pop song that shot Britney into superstardom, Genie in a bottle has always sounded old to me, whenever i hear it it just sounds quite dated, whereas Britney's stuff always sounds fairly modern (the older stuff i mean).

They are both amazing pop songs. I don't think I can choose between them.
The video for BOTM was much, much better than the video for GIAB though. |

GIAB was uploaded to youtube on 2nd october 2009, just under 15million views.
BOMT was uploaded to youtube on 24th october 2009, just under 60 million views. Think that says a lot about how iconic and popular the video still is. |

...Baby One More Time is an instant classic and one of the all time great pop records. It was the ideal pop launch for Britney..... the song itself is great but the video for it is a very good example of how you can further elevate a song to dizzier heights when you creat an iconic promo clip that gets everybody talking.
Genie In A Bottle is a song I enjoyed very much, the video was lacklustre and could have been a lot better, but the song itself is very good. However this round goes to.... Britney Spears: Baby One More Time |

I like both songs but Baby One More Time is much better. As I've said before, that song is a classic as far as I'm concerned

Baby One More Time for me. As much as I tried to act like I didn't like the song, it is a brilliant pop song. Plus I danced to the video loads!

I personally prefer Genie in a Bottle, but to answer your question "who do you think started out on a better foot?" it was definitely Britney.

I think both songs are genius! Even as more of a Britney fan I struggle to pick one. BOMT is definately a classic, but it would be a fair bit down the list of my favourite Britney songs, I like her current music more than her early music. Genie in a Bottle still sounds pretty current, and the lyrics are clever!
They both stand as equal in my book, sorry to sit on the fence. I think the video is swaying me more in favour of BOMT but in terms of the actual song, they're 50/50. The BOMT video plays a big role in people remembering that song and deeming it a classic.
