No, I just disagreed with and disproved your downplaying of Christina's success as "moderate", US-centric and the like.

But it was Moderate perhaps not US-centric as it was huge in Canada but elsewhere in the world it was a moderate seller

@Hav_Mor91 Basically you just posted an opinion that you have and anyone who disagrees or challenges it gets a 'corrected' response, that is hardly the idea of a debate/discussion/forum.

Furthermore, I think you fail to grasp an understanding of wider pop culture outwith your own beliefs. My assumption is the average household or 9-5 worker would not label "BOMT" as a classic album. From my knowledge contemporary classic albums include "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd, "Sgt. Peppers..." (Beatles) and "A Night at the Opera" by Queen. However, I do agree that the general public would view the single "BOMT" as a classic.

Here's a summary of how I believe the general public would view Britney and Christina in terms of how they have permeated popular culture and what they are known for:

Britney:

Baby One More Time/School Girl
Oops I Did It Again
Virginity debate/ Justin Timberlake
Toxic
Has kids/ Has meltdown
Comeback-ish/ Womanizer (mildly popular in comparison to other hits)

Christina:

Genie in a Bottle
Chaps/ Dirrty Video
Beautiful
Fighter
Weight gain
Moves Like Jagger (if they even know shes on it)
The Voice (if you live in America)

Okay, argue all you want but try and think through the mind of the average person living in this country not a contemporary music culture know it all. I guarantee you if you stopped someone and asked them about the above, they would mention a few things on that list.

And once again you fail to grasp my point all i said was BOMT had a bigger impact than Xtina's debut which it did of course not on the same level as hounds of love etc but in the confines of these two albums and my post was in direct reference to which i prefered using that as an example for which i was deemed to be masquerading my opinion as fact whic was take out of all context

And i hardly reckon an average uk person would care enough either way hence why i created this thread asking people who do bcare and would have knowledge of these two albums

Also singles wise all of Britneys sold over 200,000+ and got top 5 Xtina didn't hit her stride until stripped.

Overall BOMT is a classic pop album and is iconic Xtina is largely forgotten except for singes”

sales don't dictate quality and if ever there was an example of that then it would be britney`s album. which basically sold on hype and a brilliant début single. i cant say i am a huge fan of christina`s album either, but the singles were far stronger in terms of consistency.

Baby One More Time is a classic compared to Genie In A Bottle, it was the song what made Britney a huge popstar at the time, Genie never had the same big impact the way BOMT did although Genie was a hit song too but not on the level of Britney's debut.

No it doesn't but again it was just in the context of reasons as to why i prefere BOMT and why i would consider it culturally in terms of POP music in the early noughties somewhat iconic again just MY opinion

it is your opinion, on page 1 i give good examples of why the album sold so well on the back of other successful pop artists. the video is iconic, britney is iconic to a degree, but the album is not when all factors are considered.

As much as i love her debut, there is nothing iconic about it all. Not Iconic how Madonna's True Blue album is for example. Now that is an Iconic pop album.

At the time I would've said Britneys but now I only like Baby One More Time, Crazy and Born To Make You Happy (I have never ever ever liked Sometimes even as a kid) and sold the album for £2.50 at a car boot sale last year

I would now say Christina - overall the album is better than Britneys though it is still far from perfect. IMO both Britney and Christina peaked later on; Britney with In The Zone and Christina with Stripped
