Can Madonna match or beat MJ's sales records?
Do you believe that Madonna beat Michael Jackson's records. A big feat even for Madge but can she do it?

How much have they each sold?
I think I saw 300million for each, but I would of thought Michael would of sold more than that. |

Not a chance in hell. She also doesn't need to.

The Beatles are untouchable as the biggest.. i cant see any band/singer ever getting close to their sales.
As regards Jackos ACTUAL sales.. its closer to the 300m figure. He has 90 million ACTUAL certified sales in the US (which is by far the biggest market) compared to 207 million in the US for The Beatles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._music_artists So the jacko 750m claim is ludicrous. Its around 300m, and Madonna is closer to 250m. In time she could get closer.. it depends on how well his posthumous records sell. |

Well Madonna still has the advantage of being able to release new music. She shows no signs of stopping and could go on for 2 or 3 more decades yet and potentially release a few 30+ million albums. Time will tell.
I can't see MJ ever having big sales again. Unless Sony actually release something worth buying people aren't going to bother. The number of compilations they have released for him is beyond ridiculous. 'Michael' was a bit of a cut and paste job too. They signed a contract to release 7(?) albums and so far they have released 3. |

I think it depends on a few things. How many more albums Madonna releases, and how many new Greatest Hits packages she puts out. Madonna could probably make at least another 10 albums if she reverts to her new album every two year rule that she had throughout the 80s, 90s and 00s.
Then of course there is the increase in sales that will come following her death. We know for a fact she has thousands and thousands of demos all hidden away. So much money is still to be made. |

I don't think she will. I've always defended Madonna like crazy, but MDNA along with Hard Candy are nothing new. I love both albums, but Madonna used to be exciting. She's not anymore.

I think Madonna should release one or two more albums followed by a final GH's album and then get on with the musical of her life that she's supposedly planning. She should retire on that and leave her pop career consigned to the pages of history imo (the perfect music career), before she gets older and (sadly, it will happen at some stage) her single & album sales begin to decline so rapidly and that may tarnish her legacy - if even only a little.
That means that although she isn't releasing new music every few years, fans will still have the musical (like Abba fans do). |

MJ's thriller sales are terribly exagerated. Do not be fooled.

A goodbye album will also never be a goodbye album as like I said earlier. There are so many Madonna demos hidden away that even after her death Warner and now Interscope will be putting out new material for years. |

This is an interesting one as MJs records sales are so inflated arent they? And Madonnas are very "incomplete" specifically the past decade with Warner...they should be officially updated i think.
Will be very exciting to see where Madonna wants to head after this era. I mean she is already proving that through Superbowl/social networking she generates enough buzz and is set to break her Confessions On A Dance Floor world record at number 1 in over 40 countries (cant wait to see her do that) and her new tour will no doubtedly break her S&S Tour record too. I think specifically for MDNA she has focused on the music to sell itself more than a "Hung Up" "Music" 4 Minutes" worldwide smash and an "Album Promo Tour" to showcase the album really which seems to have worked for this week at least. Yeah we will see....personally i see no reason why it should be a "goal" as Madonnas sales thus far are so phenomenal...MJ, Elvis and The Beatles are the only ones with more ABBA has sold similar amounts too....so with that scope...really really well done. Cannot wait for Demos/B sides to be released physically in the future too...need me some of them! Some of them are real gems around the internet. Would be great if Interscope/Warner did a deal of sorts for them. |

LMFAO! NO, MJ was bigger globally than the US, do some digging. Most of his sales came from OUTSIDE the US than in it.
The comment was effectively that the US is the *single biggest* market. Which it is. But then both The Beatles and Elvis have probably sold close on twice as many as MJ or Madonna. But to the original question - its possible that Madonna could overtake, its just very unlikely, but then she doesn't want to nor, does she need to. |

Jeeze, look at the figures - that was already said. 90 million US, 300+ million worldwide.

She's the most successful female and most successful touring artist of all time and I agree that she probably doesn't want to break records now, although I'm sure she wouldn't mind if she did. I think people need to realise that she has a young family and raising them is her priority in life, she's been there done that with her career and still carries on because it still gives her a buzz but I'm sure she'd trade that in for a healthy and happy family
Most artists are well aware that album/single/record/download sales are only a small percentage of their income - they do considerably better from touring, music sales on their own are of little significance to anyone but the record company. |

While I've liked Madonna ever since I first saw her perform holiday on ToTP, I think her *real* priority has always been her business - and sadly her family are effectively secondary (maybe a close second, but still second).
