Willsp, you're competing with a million and one other people who are trying to get their music noticed on the internet. You need to build up a decent internet presence and a following on social and music sharing networks. Join music/artist forums that allow self promotion, and link to your music in your forum signatures. Set up accounts with Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Tweet a link of your music to relevant people on Twitter. You can try sending your music to radio DJs but they get flooded with demos and other promotional stuff, and it's very unlikely anything will come of it.

Playing live is an excellent way of gaining exposure. Find out what local bands are playing and try to blag a support spot. See if any local venues would be able to give you a promotional spot. You can sing to a backing track if you like, just don't mime.

Why not kick on Xfactor or Britain's Got talent?

thanks for taking the time to comment everyone. i have tried Xfactor loads of times but i can never get pass the first round - very frustrating. But i would rather achieve something on my own merit. Im recording two more songs next month that i have written so im gonna go from there and have accepted singing is gonna have to be a hobbie rather then a job. Thanks again.

It can be a hobby that pays very well, though

Unless you've got some serious money behind you, you won't get on national stations. Your best bet is to try BBC Introducing, you local independent station and student radio.

Well, I quite enjoyed that Wills. Getting airplay is going to be a problem in this day and age-to be honest that's what a manager's job is. Keep at it, and best of luck Wills.

Thank you taking the time to listen and comment everyone - some really good feedback and advice. Plus ive had lots of hits on youtube. So i feel proud alot of people have listened to it! I have emailed alot of people radio stations, music sites etc but not heard anything back but i kind of knew i wouldnt. Im just gonna keep trying and im recording again in 3 weeks for another song which i think is a lot better called Jealousy so i will post again a link when its done. Thanks again and any other advice would be brilliant.

It's not a managers job to get airplay, it's a pluggers job. It's the managers job to find a good plugger

You may be right now. I was lead singer of an 80's band and it was our manager that got us on a few local (inc BBC) radio stations. To no avail mind...

i have to be honest, that is really pretty catchy. did you write the song yourself, lyrics and music? the lyrics are not great, but the tune is definitely there. that is really quite impressive, all things considered. well done.

that is really impressive to be fair. i have to admit, i have listened to it twice already. its actually pretty good. i think you need to get some instrumentals done, so you can do a `live` video for youtube. that might improve your youtube views, if people can see the person singing the song with the backing track. just a thought.

i do think the new song is the better of the two songs. so there is development and its encouraging. imagine what you could achieve with more experience in the studio. keep at it, 27 is no age really and maybe your strengths are in song-writing with time and experience.

That's a insanely catchy tune. I wonder if a girl vocal would be better, not that there's anything wrong with your voice but a girl might 'sell' it better.

You have a pop song there!
