Same it is a sad day indeed. Already have my ticket to Download, now got to try and find a replacement. I guess it will probably be Reading but the crowd are nowhere near as nice as the Sonisphere lot. I had to miss it last year after being at all the others previously can't believe it will be two years in a row now.

Strangely I had to miss last year's after going to all the others we well!!

I think everyone will jump to the conclusion it was down to lack of sales but as there were still over 3 months to go I am wondering if it was more to do with the Olympics and being unable to get catering, security, etc,

I think Sonisphere will have taken a hit in sales this year though, considering the line-up Download has.

How many festivals have now been cancelled? Oxegen, Glastonbury taking the year off, and now Sonisphere.

2012 has been referred to as a "very challenging year"... sad times.

I wonder if it is purely down to tickets sales, as rumoured, after all there are still 14 weeks until it was due to take place.

I'm wondering if it that the fact it was happening very close to the Olympics that ultimately took its toll. After all they couldn't get catering, security staff, etc, that would have a big impact as they did say they decided they wouldn't be able to have an event that was up to the standard of the previous years.

Glastonbury always has a year off every three or four years, it has nothing to do with anything.

Festivals are feeling the brunt of the recession, though. Ticket prices are way too much for most of them. Why not just lower the prices and up the fees for stall holders to compensate? You make a killing being a retailer at a festival, a bit of a profit drop to get that custom is barely any price to pay in comparison to having the sales slot dropped entirely due to cancellation.

The Olympics probably made a tough business that much tougher.
