I thought that 1 year after its release, we would be able to move on now...

Anyway.
'FF' didn't flop, it underperformed. I understand that its chart performance was underwhelming, but a top 10 album that sold about 1,4 million ww cannot be labelled as a total flop. The reason why it underperformed is that the era was a mess, mostly due to the label being on the verge of shutting down and merging with RCA.
'HIAM' had a decent amount of momentum, but they killed it by releasing it pre-maturely in the UK when the airplay was not strong enough. Had they waited to release the single the week after the video's release, it would have been a top 3 hit, which would have given her more buzz and would have secured a better commercial reception for its follow-up too. The video should have been released a little earlier too
Then, they rush-released 'TTWE' because it leaked IIRC and they delayed the video for that song too. Since they weren't willing to promote it, it was dead on arrival internationally.
And finally it all fell apart when she started promoting ( well, her promo tour only lasted 5 days and was focused on US TV, but anyway). The main source of buzz and interest for a Britney era is the idea of "THE comeback" and this is what gave her so much momentum in the beginning (Her choreographer saying she was ready to dance hard, her interviews reading "the b*tch is back and better than ever" ). When people saw that she hadn't made any considerable progress since the 'Circus' campaign ( I love her, but it's true), they just gave up on her and the album. And since there was no further promo to at least keep her in the public eye, interest fizzled out and the album started descending in the charts.
I hope the next era is a comeback of sorts, because, as a fan, I'd like to see that
