The UK charts...became stagnent?
I keep looking at the top 10 this year and it seems very stagnant, very little movement. I'm just comparing it to earlier years when every month there would be a completly new top 20 (apart from the odd song that had 6 weeks at number 1 etc)
I also see that there are a number of songs not released yet according to this, yet they are already in the itunes chart http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/si...ase-diary.html And there is no mention of these wonderful songs that really should have a place in our top 20 for a few weeks. Darin - Nobody Knows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-0La...eature=related Marina and the diamonds - aucustic version of Homewrecker. Even if you haven't got the hype of this band, have a listen to this. Your jaw will drop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=VmOO5Y1wiIA What do you think of the charts at the moment? I think there are songs coming on youtube and Viva a month or 2 before they are released isn't helping, and the fact that radio play is given only to selected artists over and over and over again! |

Yeah the airplay is an issue, take Part Of Me as an example Top 3 on radio airplay already. It's ridiculous.I want to hear Mary J Blige, Estelle, Lianne La Havas, Janelle Monae, Marina Diamandis on the radio. Proper talent. Katy can write songs and perform them ok (if her vocals were good there would be no issue). Radios are so shady now. They ignore so many good songs.

I don't bother with the radio anymore. They play the same artists on heavy rotation all the time no matter how bad the songs. Makes you wonder whether the record companies pay radio stations. The charts just reflect this

I just had a very interesting conversation. I called up various record labels and introduced my self as Patrick Dunsmore, the new manager of Capital FM. They were offering me in excess of £10 million to play Jessie J, Rhiana, Adele, and Sean Paul on a loop tommorow.
(not true...but I'm sure somebody here could do that and see what happens) |

(not true...but I'm sure somebody here could do that and see what happens) Now record labels are allowed to do deals with radio stations to play songs, as long as it's open to the general public. Some songs such as Born This Way by Lady Gaga and You Da One by Rihanna had deals where some radio stations in the US were to play them once an hour for a week. But it doesn't really happen that often anymore. There's other ways to encourage radio stations to play your songs, but indie artists can do those too, as they don't/can't involve massive sums of money. On-topic: I do agree the charts are very stagnant, and I do believe it's mainly radio to blame (and downloads, but there's not much we can do about that). Although radio stations probably aren't bribed to do so, they do tend to play the same songs too much. They keep advertising the same songs again and again and again, so they same songs keep selling and stay in the chart. It's really annoying. In past decades the charts were never this slow. |

i don't think there's anything wrong with the charts. People obviously like the music otherwise they wouldn't be buying it and it wouldn't be selling well to warrant them a place in the chart. Quit moaning, some people like the more mainstream tracks...
