Best thing to dip a chip in
So... ketchup is obvious, but what's your favourite condiment for chips? I'm after some inspiration. I've been having them with salsa, gravies, mayo, garlic sauce - anything I'm missing?

As a child I loved chips and fried egg (runny yolk) with salad cream.
Not had salad cream for years, might buy some this weekend and re-visit that memory!

Where I'm from everyone dips their chips (fries) in tartar sauce. Tahini would probably be good too-- but then I'd eat tahini on its own.

I expect all the artificial flavours and E numbers have been removed, and it'll taste rubbish!

It's not! It's delicious! You have it for your fish and chips fish, so you're essentially eating them together anyway. The local burger chain in my city even serves it on request, and they don't even sell fish.

Sour cream or Philadelphia - not that you can 'dip' phili as such, but a great big lump with your chip is yummy.

I had sweet chilli dip with some McDonalds fries a few weeks ago and it was quite a nice combo.

OMG - egg sounds good but the egg to chip ratio would be bonkers.
Gonna try tartar sauce - it's crazy but it might just work. Thanks all! |

If I'm having Fish & chips I love plenty of Tartare sauce to dip the chips in. Mustard is also good in moderation if you're having a burger, steak or sausages.

Cheese and beer dip with chilli.
Place an opened bottle of beer on the kitchen work surface overnight. Put mature grated cheese, chilli, tabasco into a food mill or food processor. Mustard would also be good. Add a little stale beer, not much or it will go horribly mushy and unpleasant. Turn on food processor The dip should be fairly thick to dip chips, crisps or crudities in. |
