i was only trying to point out their different styles.. jai will find a niche that suits him, just as olly has found his. i used to be a fan of the x-factor.. but i've given up on programmes like bgt, x-factor and the voice.. you tube is the best source of undiscovered talent.. the world is your oyster.. i've discovered great singers/songs from taiwan, south korea, japan, mexico, chile, south africa, philippines, all over europe, australia, and new zealand..

I was really looking foward to seeing Jai McDowall perform tonight, i loved his album.
so upset, i hope he get's a record deal with a company that actually knows how to manage him, he has so much talent,. Both Simon and Modest Mgnmt were the cause of poor album sales of Jai's debut album because THEY didn't promote it. Jai did nothing wrong but win, and deserved more than what he got.

Actually all he deserved from Syco was the prize. The prize (which a lot of people forget) was performing for the Queen. Syco should never have signed him, but of course if they hadn't they would still be getting criticism ("Why has Simon not signed Jai! Is he anti-Scottish?"). You really cannot win.

You give him a recording contract which is not part of the prize and you still get grief.

Simon wouldn't get grief from me for not signing people. He shouldn't sign anyone that he and Syco aren't prepared to put 100% effort into. It's ridiculous that, time and time again, he'll make a big deal of signing someone, then put as little effort as he can get away with into the recording, publicity and marketing of that person. Shortly thereafter, they'll be dropped, with the inevitable moan from Simon about how they haven't lived up to expectations!

My heart is broken for Jai McDowall. His fellow humans are nailing him to a wall. NO ONE deserves this kind of abusive treatment...The only thing this man ever did was sing like an angel and speak his own mind...In the states we have the same country from border to border, but in the UK, countries ravage each other with hate and prejudice...What is the world coming to?? Let your heart be at peace, Jai, and sing to the world...

I agree with you, it pisses me off - he does as little as possible with that person and puts no effort in himself, and then moans when they don't sell as expected

I really enjoyed his album and feel for him but he can hadly be surprised.

I voted for Jai to win BGT (I rarely bother voting in TV talent competitions). I thought his rendition of Bring Me To Life in the semi-finals was awesome. I'm from southern England, and the fact that Jai comes from Scotland had absolutely no bearing on my support for him (why should it?). Yes, there are deep-rooted historical reasons for tensions between the countries of the British Isles, but I think the hate and prejudice you speak of isn't anywhere near as bad as you think it is (it's so easy for people to spout hatred from the anonymity of their computer keyboards). I feel a kinship with fellow Britains from all corners of our islands, and I like to think I'm in the majority rather than the minority. Hopefully that will be more evident as we get behind ALL our athletes at the Olympics in a few weeks' time.

Ideally XF and BGT would alternate. It would mean there would be time and effort into properly promoting the winner. Problem atm is that by the time the XF tour finishes the auditions for the next season have just about started. Never any time to produce a decent album... Sony produce dross and then don't want to promote it.

Not sure how BGT management expect winners to progress... or maybe they don't... there is no commitment to sign them... it's just luck I guess if the BGT winner happens to be a singer.

I feel sorry for the decent talented contestants who see the show as an opportunity but then are left struggling to make the best of the opportunity.




Time and again we hear Scowell praising folk that show confidence. He doesn't like meekminded performers. He needs them to be self-starters (which can be difficult if they're young/children or have no real experience of how the industry works)... Prolly coz he knows they won't get much help afterwards... Unless the winner is particuarly special...

After all is said and done a singer is a singer is a singer. Sometimes they do well as a recording artist and sometimes they have a longer career by turning to the stage/musical theatre (and for some ppl in 'ere that is deemed a 'failure'... dunno why considering the number of 'resting' actors out there at any one time ).

Not sure if Sony are set up to manage & promote non singers? Who took on Diversity?

But this time Scowell is behind them 100% because he wanted them to win, and has wanted a dog act to win since BGT started. Hopefully there will be a better long-term outcome... should be because of the winner's £££ prize this year... Ashleigh should be able to set herself up in business as a trainer... job for life... there's lots of pesky animals out there that need training...

2) Cowell cant have it both ways. I think he also likes XF contestants who do what theyre told and who dont speak up - so surely that would mean he prefers shy people

Well that IS what he does: He signs them up just to stop anyone else doing it and should they surprise everyone and take off, then he is onto a winner and if not they are dropped.

Basically he just uses people and covers all his bases without any commitment. Everyone is just cannon fodder for Simon's business interests.

It's sneeky, and morally corrupt, but legal and so what businesses do all the time. How to stop competition, cover all eventualities and spend very little.
