The object of our game is to travel throughout a futuristic solar system, exploring the various planets and completing missions on each planet. In essence, it’s a free roam game, with added RPG elements set in the vast, exciting and unexplored setting of space. The missions are completed through the central character, however the emphasis is on the free roam elements, players are free to explore each planet at their leisure, interacting with each planet’s set of residents, trading with, purchasing from and battling with the characters on each planet.
Our central character, in contrast to the futuristic setting, has an old school cowboy type vibe to him – a gun toting, whisky drinking, womanizing maverick figure. We feel it’s important to set our main character up as an anti-hero type– someone the average player for our game would see as quite badass and cool, as opposed to the average ‘regular Joe’ type figure these games often feature. We feel a backstory to our character is especially important, allowing players to understand the motivation of the character and really get into its headspace. Brett Steel is a violent individual who skirts the criminal underworld, fuelled by a desire for revenge on a universe which has left him virtually penniless, destitute + it’s additionally fuelled by the fact he believes his wife was murdered by extra-terrestrials.
Stylistically, both our character, and the wider game are influenced through a number of channels. Adult influenced comics, imagery from dark, violent Quentin Tarentino style cinema such as the Kill Bill series Sin City, Machete, Grindhouse etc. Our game is at heart graphic, gory and violent, but it also has an escapist, discovery type element to it. Supporting characters will embody the same feel, with the major characters of the series being corrupt figures, prostitutes, and general underworld types.
The reason we feel funds from Kickstarter would benefit us is due to the fact that we are using a comic-book style to it and we feel we would get a very good backing from the cult followers of this genre. We feel our video game is an innovative and intriguing story worthy of support. We feel it would really take off and become extremely popular.
