In terms of donations, and after a lot of research including on and around Kickstarter in general, we have came up with a set target that we would like to aim at for our recent concept of our new, unique, one of a kind survival game, Elysium.
First of all, it is important to acknowledge the fact that Kickstarter is fantastic for two reasons. The first reason is having people you have never met, heard, or talked to/of before in your life donating to a project of your own, it is a community coming together to help others. However, the second reason is the large amount of interest the website can bring to the new project in general and this interest manages to develop a good amount of backing-support with the game and gives you a sense of urgency in completing it.
First of all, it was majorly important that we took into consideration the type of game, as well as the standard of graphics and gameplay and other variables that a donation would suffice. However, we also have to insert the aspect of realism in our asking for donations. The best part of Kickstarter is that once the project has been funded, there can be extra donations placed to expand the game further. An example of this is
The Dead Linger, the link is clickable. They had a very basic goal of $60,000, however this has expanded to over $140,000 due to a large interest in the game. The type of game we feel Elysium would fall into is a ‘casual and social’ game type, in which we have came across this guidance in our research: “Casual and social games have a lower development cost. The development cost of most of the games (having a development cycle of six months) is between $30,000 and $300,000’ in which we have took into close consideration.
So, with no further ado, the donation minimum we are going to ask for, for our project of Elysium, is
$150,000. To further the concept of this amount, we have discovered other games on Kickstarter which have been very successful and our based around a similar aspect to that of Elysium, in which I mean the
type of game. These games include:

Legends of Elsenwald;

ShadowRun Returns;

Grim Dawn.
The three examples listed above are all asking for donations between a range of $50,000 - $400,000. However, as you can also see (and in the case of Shadow Run in particular), the asking price of $400,000 has been completely overwhelmed and managed to hit over one and a half million dollars. This, in particular, is what we hope to accomplish with Elysium.
So, to keep it brief, we feel the asking price of $150,000 is a very reasonable asking and certainly is lying in on the borderline of a realistic amount and enough to make a fantastic game for the world to enjoy playing!
