When it came to the three celebrities, we felt it was important to have a variety of generations taking part in the jubilee, therefore we decided to go for celebrities whose careers really sored during one of the following three decades: 60s, 80s and 00s. The concept behind this was to appeal to all viewers, both younger and older as it is well known that it is not only the older generation that are interested by the Queen and her royal family, therefore we felt it was important we had a range of celebrities. So, with no further ado, the three celebrities are as follows.
Paul McCartney.
It is a known fact that the Beatles dominated the charts immediately from when they formed in 1960 all the way until their final album in 1970. In fact, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, they are the highest-selling recording artists ever. They have sold more than one billion records, including albums and singles. Paul McCartney, and the remaining Beatles members, still have an important role in the musical-society today as musicians today perform cover versions of Beatles' songs, and people everywhere still listen to their music. Not to mention their vast amount of number one singles (and incredible amount of weeks in that position) shown in the image below.

However, it’s not solely his, and The Beatles, success in terms of why he should be an important celebrity sponsor, but also the fact that he has performed at the Royal Variety Show which has been an incredible highlight for the show in particular - almost every conceivable sort of act has at one time or another been presented to the monarch at the Royal Command Performance, including The Beatles in 1963, The Supremes in 1968 and The Blue Man Group in 2005. But what we feel is the most important of all, and I quote from an articule produced on March 11th 1997, Paul McCartney, the Beatle who joked 30 years ago about smoking marijuana in the Buckingham Palace toilets, went back to see Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday to collect a knighthood for helping to revolutionize pop music. He has been knighted, Sir Paul would be an excellent addition.
Ellie Goulding.
Ellie has had a lot of success during the noughties. For example, after signing to Polydor Records in 2009, she released her first EP in 2009, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, followed by her debut studio album Lights in 2010. Her album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 650,000 copies in the UK. Her single Lights has also been certified platinum in the United States by the RIAA. Not only has her albums and singles done very well in the charts, but she has been nominated for many awards, as shown in the image below, she has also won quite a few as well.

However, similarly to Paul, there were plenty more reasons, more linked to the Queen and her royal family, for why we decided to use Ellie for celebrity sponsorship. The Royal Wedding, which was situated in Westminster Abbey in April 2011, featured Ellie who serenaded Prince William and Kate Middleton (the Duchess of Cambridge) with her first single Your Song’ at the wedding reception. This made it clear that Ellie is quite close to the Royal family, especially being the only musician to perform at the wedding, with the reason being they were both ‘big fans’ of her music and had bought her debut album Lights, which topped the charts following its release in March 2010. We figure Ellie would be a fantastic addition to the celebrity sponsorship because of this.
Elton John.
Speaking of ‘Your Song’, the third and final celebrity we have chosen for sponsorship of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is Elton John. In terms of music, Elton has been very successful: In his four-decade career John has sold more than 250 million records, making him one of the most successful artists of all time. His single "Candle in the Wind 1997" has sold over 33 million copies worldwide, and is the bestselling single in Billboard history. He has more than 50 Top 40 hits, including seven consecutive No. 1 US albums, 56 Top 40 singles, 16 Top 10, four No. 2 hits, and nine No. 1 hits. He has won six Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him Number 49 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. His success is shown further in the image below.

However, just like the other two celebrities we have chosen, we didn’t decide on Elton John just because of this musical success, though it was a big part of course. First and foremost, similarly to that of Paul, Elton was knighted and became a sir in 1998, becoming Sir Elton Hercules John for "services to music and charitable services, which clarifies that Sir Elton is a well-respected individual. The most important reason however, is that Sir Elton John was a very close friend of William’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales and from then on, has made many appearances to events of the royal family such as the Royal Wedding. We feel Elton is a vital addition to our sponsorship!
There you have it, our three celebrities include that of Sir Paul McCartney, a wide success in the 1960s being a part of the outrageously successful band The Beatles, Ellie Goulding, who has had great success in the 2000s and was the only musician to perform at the Royal Wedding, and finally Sir Elton John, a very successful man, mainly between the years of 1978 to the 1990s and who is close to the royal family! Three excellent additions to the event.
