hmm I think it has something to do with how they look and what type of music they release (too pop) .. Their lyrics are cheesy aswell , one of their recent ones is 'I'm gonna turn you on just like a TV' ok. Pause.

how can that be true? boyz II men were huge in the us. granted jls are nowhere near as good, but it has nothing to do with colour.

well they are young and marketable, you only have to look at the teen markets in america like big time rush, justin bieber, jonas bros. Its a shame JLS aren't big in america (and yes they do have some cheesy lyrics-who doesnt) but they are far more better vocally apart from marvin and maybe jb lol. They need to reproduce their first album which was very good and looking at the producers they are working with am thinking they will.

They didn't have a proper release there, unlike the other 2. Their debut was good, but they never released it right. They should've (along with Alex) been all over US TV in early 2010. Put XF UK on the world stage.

I get what shackfan means. Cowell saw nothing in them, but the world in 1D, wonder why?

Do they? Everybody In Love charted at like #400...They'd have to change their sound, but judging by the producers they've been working with lately it looks like they're going in the right direction...

Their sound is Urban mixed with dance pop, something more and more Urban artists are doing in the US. Hell even Nicki Minaj is doing music slightly similar to what they are doing. They would fit in.

They didn't make enough effort?
TW and 1D have done numerous radio tours and live shows out there. (I know TW's connections have helped them greatly to get on shows like Jay Leno).
Social media has been extremely helpful to 1D's success - months prior to their release.

I think Glad You Came is very on trend, that's why radio lapped it up.
What Makes You Beautiful is very reminscent of 90's pop (BSB like).

One Direction and The Wanted appeal to all the young white teen American girls mainly, JLS don't appeal to young black or white teen American girls because they're coming accross as too bland musically for either and we are talking America here after all.

One Direction = 5 British Biebers.

The Wanted = have Bieber's manager who got their song on Glee.

Both have been backed by Bieber, so his fans no doubt backed them. As far as I'm aware, he hasn't said anything about JLS.

Because unlike the Wanted their record label's executives weren't prepared to buy their success or manipulate their radio airplay, and unlike with OneD, they didn't have hordes of hormonal preteens only interested in them because their label have marketed them as being physically attractive and commercially nonthreatening.

Also, because they're crap.

This.

While I had The Wanted and One Direction, I can see why young girls have flocked towards them.

The fact is JLS just aren't very good. They seem to sing the same song over and over again from what I've seen and heard of them.

And the other 2 don't?? They all sing about love. They're BOYBANDS.

And out of the 3, debuts alone, JLS are far bigger. Massive first week sales. JLS would easily appeal to teens in the US, if they went with Beat again, Boyz II men mixed with Nsync. They didn't go on tv, which is a must in the USA. I mean, the wanted can't even get a platinum album. PLATINUM.

JLS only seem to sing about clubs, is what I meant.

So do The Wanted. Glad You Came is about meeting girls and getting drunk - just look at the video. Hasn't stop them getting a platinum single in the US.

All three of 1D's singles have been about 'love'....JLS don't always sing about clubs, in fact they are the only ones that have covered a range of themes...

None of The Wanted or 1D can really sing which is why they all sing midtempos and uptempos about love/clubs etc...if anything JLS are probably the most versatile group out of the three and they can dance a whole lot better than 1D and TW too...

And IMO, they have that as an advantage plus being able to be big on urban radio too (in the US) as well as pop. I hope they have the material and push for the US. TW and 1D have reopened the boyband thing. And also, JLS have the pwhoar factor, that the other two lack. They have that look. And are unique for being an urban all male group. If they have a few r&b cuts, they can be big on urban and pop at the same time. Kaching.

Have you seen any of their acoustic/tour videos with no backing track? They can sing. Some members are stronger than others though.

And both TW and 1D have ballads on their albums, not just uptempo.

I've never seen them sing acapella actually live both 1D and TW. All they seem to have are edited 'acoustic' sessions which have been touched up. JLS on the other hand have demonstrated time and again that they can sing live (when they can be bothered)....

I think it is down to image. One Direction is a boyband of Justin Beibers.

As we speak the Americans will be coming up with a manufactured version of their own and they'll probably be bigger than One Direction and The Wanted put together.

It will be like 'The Monkees 2012' - you see.
