I was in HMV the other day and they were playing her new album and she sounds quite rubbish?

to say there are so many madonna topics being posted here... she's not got much of a voice really has she...

i'm not just wanting to put her down, the song frozen is good! just wondering what others thought... can she sing?

She had to sing in an operatic style for the film Evita. If Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan Parker considered her the best for the role of Evita, then obviously she sings fantastically.

Madonna's a lovely singer in my opinion.

She has a great voice on her ballads.

Listen to Live To Tell.

Then tell me she can't sing.

She can sing but for some reason she does tend to lip-sync alot (even if the song is slow).

I believe the majority of her 'Confessions' tour was live singing and in that case, it was very good. Especially 'Hung Up'.

i'm not a gaga fan no hav but she seems to have a better voice than madonna?
yeah, maybe she's alright, i guess i just don't see what the big deal is with her! there are far better female singers out there i'd say.
also, i wasn't saying all singers necessarily have to have good voices, some of my favourite singers have pretty bad voices in fact

She can sing well enough and put on a good show but I doubt she'd ever appear on a credible list of the best singers of all time. She's a pop star at the end of the day, having a great voice isn't necessarily a requirement and it's done Madonna no harm.

ouchy mama. I don't know how anyone can say she can't sing. She proved her worth there and then. Iconica.

She can. At the Oscars she wasn't dancing. When she dances she mimes.

She's is on the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame where she was gloriously inducted in 2008.

Gaga does have a great voice and whilst not classically a singer Madonna has a nice range and performs well

She cant sing but who cares...

She releases the best songs and thats all that matters. The fact that she has the shittest voice is of no consequence to me.

Her music rules!!

perhaps so... the 'cant sing' thing was obviously an exagguration, she's above average at singing i'm sure... i suppose i just don't see the appeal.
if we are talking big name female singers i think Bjork's music is much more interesting [than the madonna stuff i've heard] and her voice is far better than Madonnas i think.

I like some of Bjork's stuff, but a lot of people don't see the appeal of Bjork either. I have a friend who just hates Bjork's voice and can't listen to her music because of that. Bjork has a very eccentric voice and is an acquired taste. I find it weird that you would hold Bjork up as a model of technically perfect singing. I think most people would say someone like Adele, Mariah Carey or even Kelly Clarkson.

Madonna can definitely sing. I guess whether you like someone's voice is a matter of personal taste but I love the tone of her voice. With a lot of pop music, you don't need a huge range, the important thing is the tone.

I would say Madonna had a better tone pre 2000 however. Her English twang has effected her range. Her voice altered. Saying that though she is at her best again on the track Falling Free so she still has it.

She has a lovely voice and sings the majority of her concerts live... sometimes her tone is a bit harsh but she can certainly sing.

Those of you who say she can't sing, watch this and then say she can't sing...

Not necessarily...

Dancing and singing LIVE on her last tour.
Also dancing and singing live on that tour...

well after watching the links i realise she can sing, it was a poor choice for a title by me.
Also gigi, i can see why people might dislike bjorks voice it is a bit shouty my mum hates bjork it's all personal taste i guess. i prefer more unusual voices though to the technically good ones, plus those kind of singers, adele, celine dion usually sing boring love songs IMO.

suppose i only started this topic after seeing so many others on madonna here, i just don't see what the big deal is with her. i guess i'm in the minority there though

I love Madonna's voice. It's changed as she's become older, as you would expect, but I think to suggest she can't sing at all is either bias for other artists you like more, or a lack of real exposure to her work.

I appreciate that when it comes to what singing voices we like, it's totally subjective for the most part, but I do think it's genuinely unfair to claim that Madonna can't sing.
