You've got nothing to be ashamed of, in fact it's that to**er who should hang his head in shame

You've got a lot of responsibility in work and part of that involves you following certain procedures in certain circumstances, so don't let that make you feel ashamed of how you acted

It was a tough position you were put in and you should be proud that you were able to follow the procedures and have that composure to act in the way you did.
You were caught off guard, these aren't things we expect to happen in work so it's only natural that you feel upset by it. You have every right to be upset and annoyed too as it's disgraceful his actions
