I have to see the police tomorrow, an ex-employee decided to have a go at me today using some homophobic language. I'm going to press charges. I can't really go into detail for obvious reasons, but yeah, I hope they take this seriously!

“Hmm, she definitely has gotten better - hopefully the 'tough' new coach for her has done the trick but I don't honestly see her as a GS winner. She should def crack the top 50, 25 at a push and should reach a few 4th round/QF matches I'd hope over the next few years.”

Yeah, I'm hopeful she can keep on improving. Not sure I'm believing all the future No.1 hype, but I do think she has the potential to come good at least once and maybe win one GS with the right work and focus. She kinda reminds of like a British version of Petra Kvitova with her playing style so I'd love it if she could emulate her success! Must admit that I shouldn't underestimate her as much though as I had her down to lose against both Kim and Li Na Would love her to prove me totally wrong against Stosur too
Quote:
“Its a shame she had to go out but I'm glad it was Laura to do it. Lol, have you seen the press conference from last night for Kim - she's so friendly. xD”

Yeah, she's such a nice person both on and off court that it's a real shame to see her career over.
Quote:
“Not a shock but indeed poor Andy! It was coming but it was so sad to actually have it confirmed!”

Yeah, after Wimbledon, I didn't want to believe that was his farewell but it really is sad to have it confirmed that he'll no longer be on the tour.

“I want a Murray or Nole win. Murray mainly because he has to *eventually* get one and it would be nice to add it to his Olympic Gold.”

Haha it'd be great getting a Murray win and that first slam outta the way! Plus it almost seems like fate seeing as it goes Nole AO Champ, Rafa FO Champ, Roger Wimby Champ, leaving Andy to be USO Champ Now that would be a perfect ending to this years slams!!

No I didn't catch that match, but gutted as I seem to be missing all the more interesting matches!

I could have renewed but I don't like my flat or the area so I told the landlord I want to leave at the end of the contract.

I'm looking at houseshares and 1 bed flats but I'm struggling to find decent shares (i.e., with housemates around my age that hang out together) or flats that I can afford alone. I emailed about 10 landlords the other day but only two replied - one was already rented and the other never replied to my reply

I don't know really what to say Jase, considering my first homophobic comment was only on Thursday.

I do think what happened is terrible though

Sorry to hear about this Cakey. Its sad to think that these sort of things still happen, but you have to look at the positive that at least we do live in an age where there are repercussions for such actions. It not worth thinking about what was probably allowed to happen 30 or 50 years ago.

Not that I'm comparing like for like, but something hit a nerve the other day... I know you shouldn't let comments on forums get to you, but someone stated that "there are too many closeted cowards out there". Now that did stop me in my tracks. Am I cowardly? Should I be ashamed?
Its not that straight forward though is it?

That was a stupid comment. Coming out can be bloody difficult, particularly if yo have idiots about who will take pleasure in making your life a misery. It's easier said than done.

I've known about my sexuality for nearly 5 years and only know is it becoming common knowledge.

^Thank you. Like I said I know you shouldn't take anything posted on a forum to heart but that one just hit me in the gut (or heart..). It certainly didn't help me make a decision to actually vacate the closet, in fact it very nearly sent me back to Narnia.

I know.

What people say online can make a difference to you. If it weren't for the fact that most people on here are quite open minded then I'd probably still be quite closeted myself and probably be making homophobic comments myself.

You may be right there. Although it takes time to get a position of acceptance in oneself first.

Only you will know when the right time is. I left it quite late myself, in comparison to my peers.

Have you not accepted who you are then?

Well I'm off to the police station today to chase it up, and then I'm off to St Albans with work peeps, so there's a positive there.

Awwh Mark, I'm sorry to hear this Try not to let the keyboard warriors get to you though, I mean every situation is unique and will have its own influential factors to consider for the individuals involved, so it's illogical to just assume that every closeted person is a coward purely for the fact they're in the closet

You'll know when the time is right for you to come out and when you feel comfortable and have accepted it yourself (once all that's done, you'll likely find that actually coming out is easier than you anticipated).

Haha, I'm slowly caving and my Nole love is gradually growing It helps when he can take the mick out of himself like in this and this P.s Nole for Strictly when he retires!!

Aww Lisicki <3 It was so cute watching that live when she got the fright and then couldn't stop giggling at herself when the crowd began to laugh!

lol didn't Laura do another shot like that at the Olympics too?! I'm pretty sure it was on her serve though

It is a shame that Kim never got a very good farewell but I'm happy that Robson was able to knock her out as it aids to her credibility. She's defiently doing really well at this open! I hope that she breaks into the top 10 at some point and wins at least one GS since I do think she has the talent to do it!

Not a fan of Tsonga, Jav! :0 Ahh, I think he's my favourite when Murrary isn't playing! It is a shame for Andy, I'll miss watching his games - he was a great player.

I do love Nole but I'd like it to be a Andy vs. Murray final with Murray winning. Like you say Jav, it's high time that he gets first prize at a GS and I think he's playing well enough to get it!

It's something I love about Tennis, all the top players seem to be really fun and down to earth people off the court. In other sports, it doesn't always feel like the friendly type atmosphere that you sense at the Press conferences and what not!

People on the internet can be very cutting and it's a shame because they can never understand your own personal situation. You have to come out when your ready and only you will know when that is! Stay strong and know that your not weak or a coward, your just not ready yet!

Yes I have, as the song says "I Am What I Am" and all that. Just that it takes time to get to that point. I'd probably say (as soppy as this sounds) that it probably took me until I started posting in here back in late '07 to fully accept it all. Which is probably a good 10 years after the first realisation. Which is a lot of lost time when you think about it.

I know I've said it before though, back then I don't think there was as much acceptance as there is now, which does certainly play a part in holding you back.
Nowadays with a more prominent and positive role/presence in some of the media (with shows like Glee amongst others) which certainly has helped.
I appreciate that its far from easy for teens today (let alone old farts like me), but in comparison it should in theory be possible for more to come out quite quickly. Which is a wonderful thing. I know there will still be some like me, but its great to think less will be stuck in limbo for so long.

Then again, at least I can say I'm out here. That's certainly an improvement on the position I used to be.

Wow. Well I'm glad to hear that this forum has helped. I know just generally some people look down their noses at net forum posting, but they have made a positive difference although some still negative). As I've said I don't think I'd be where I am without this thread.

Having watched her match with Stosur, I was so gutted for her as there was plenty of opportunity for her to capitalise upon Stosur's quite shocking display out there. Unfortunately she just kept on giving away DF and UE, especially at critical moments I really do have high hopes for her though and think this whole USO experience will again add to her confidence from the Olympics in going forward!

Ahh another one under Nole's spell eh I'd be thrilled to get an Andy v Murray or Fed final xD If against Fed, I suppose I could live with my FedEx losing to Andy to give him one more Slam for his exit, but if against Murray, it has to be a Murray win

So I went to the police station after not hearing anything for 48 hours, worried that they'd close the case. The desk clerk seemed very nonchalant about the whole thing, and laughed at my worry, saying I'd be lucky to get a response in 48 hours. I expressed my surprise having been told I'd be seen at 10 am the day previous.

Anyway, she read the notes and asked me if I knew the offender, so I said yes, then assuming we were friends, she said, "Oh it just sounds like a throwaway comment made in the heat of the moment."

I told her I certainly didn't feel that way and left in disgust.

When I got home I made a complaint via my local constabulary website, and lo and behold, I'm now seeing a hate crimes officer on Friday.

I really wish I didn't have to go there, and suggest that I was mistreated by the police because of my sexuality, but if I hadn't they wouldn't have even paid attention...the faintest chance of being sued, and they contact me within hours...it's horrendous .

They wouldn't have said it was just a "throwaway comment" if it was a racist comment

The little thugs (different ones today) were giving me more aggro today, the word bank was "cocksucker", "AIDS" and "queer" my first thought was to ignore it which I did.

Just when I came out of school, I saw one of them alone so went straight up and confronted them, and they were lost for words... I will admit that it felt good.

It's bad enough making homophobic comments but to not having the balls say it to my face made it even worse.

Part of me isn't bothered, because really why should I care about what a bunch of mini criminals and future scroungers think of me? But then another part of me thinks why should I listen to them spit bile at me?

All very frustrating tbh

It's horrible that you had to do that but you shouldn't feel bad. It's the system that sucks and that puts you in the disgusting situation were you have to do that to get the treatment that you deserve from the start! But it's good news
that your complaint will now get the proper attention it deserves!

That's horrible - people can be vulgar in the best of situations and it can be a hundred times worse at school. I know what you mean about not caring but you shouldn't have to put up with that type of bullying. Could you maybe talk to your year head or pastoral care teacher and see if they can do something? Maybe you could try to set up a LGBT or GSA group to raise visibility and that might also reduce the bullying? Whatever happens, I hope the little idiots stop what they're doing.
