(Norwich - it's a city, honest!)
God don't I know it - in the Midlands "I'm going into town" is used to cover a shopping trip to not only towns but slightly larger places like Birmingham. I once said "I'm going into town, anyone want anything from the shops?" in the office at County Hall and was berated for dissing Norwich as it is a "fine city". They seemed very sensitive about it, yet the phrase doesn't seem to upset the citizens of Coventry, Wolverhampton or Birmingham. Or Lichfield for that matter.

FFS Citizens of Norwich, a throwaway remark is not going to force Her Brendaness to remove your city status, get over it...

I'm going to invade the Inn!

What a crap and long week i've had. And it'll soon be Monday again I am going to go home and cheer myself up with some 2011 weening myself off 2012 before I get sick of it.

Tomorrow I get to pick my kitchen units and bathroom tiles for my new house so I'm excited - not that you want to know that or care but
We will always care about your kitchen units in here Piddy

Looking forward to your entry in the NF Rejects of 2012 contest on Sunday #shamelessplug

Yeah, Birmingham City Centre has always been town for me.

Ok guys... I'm currently putting a Eurovision/Schlager/europop playlist together as it looks like I'm getting a DJ slot in a bar/club in Chester.

If you could go to a club and have them play your favourite Eurovision/Schlager/europop songs what would they be? All suggestions will be listened to (where necessary - I already have a pretty decent collection of songs if I do say so myself ) and considered for inclusion for the fine people of Chester
Yay! A challenge!

Out of the ones you've definitely got, then I'd go with

Agnes - Love Love Love
Same Difference - Karma Karma
BWO - Chariots of Fire
Sanna Nielsen - I'm In Love
Alcazar - Stay The Night
Loreen - Euphoria
Kati Wolf - What About My Dreams
Hera Bjork - Someday

Just go through the MelFest/MGP Back catalogue

Very exciting news Nathan, when is it going to be?
Just to add my twopennethworth, I suggest:

Nanne Grönvall - Håll om mig
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpyRZayFGug

and I cannot believe Nightfox has not suggested this already, so here is a treat for her:

Estonia’s Sandra Oxenryd - Through my window
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=922TeHUzhLA

Enjoy!

Well in that case....... I'm having white gloss units but can't decide between a black, silver or grey work surface

I think I have my choice but not sure on the possibility of success. Does this count towards the final year awards?

Black!

And yes, it counts to the Ultimate FM Award .... I was thinking that I would have a great chance (I may after all give myself first choice ) but I think that my entry just won't be everyone's cup of tea....

Oh well, I started off really well last year, so if I start off a bit crap this year......

I live in a cathedral city and everyone here "goes to town". No-one finds it demeaning (or maybe they just all acknowledge what a shit place this is).

I'm going to start proper revision now, honest.

Aww, thanks weedy! Gee, I haven't listened to this song in ages, I used to have it on my iPod and used to take it out whenever I went out jogging, it's best heard on a nice sunny day in a huge grassy field.

I had an each way bet on Sunnyhillboy, so you can imagine my reaction at the finish!

I agree about the two horses. I wonder whether the press will be even more intense because one was a Gold Cup winner and favourite for the National.

I don't support the grand national, the incident involving hose two poor horses pretty much explains my point. They are such wonderful creatures yet people choose to use them as moneymakers. I used to go pony riding when I was 12 (See? Even as a boy I wasn't exactly masculine! ) and I've grown to adore them so much, they're just like big dogs.

I know someone that had an each way bet on it too. Was furious but still got money

I totally agree that it is so sad. There was a woman trainer of one of the horses that died interviewed pre race and she was almost in tears in fear for the safety of her horse and she was just praying it got round safely

You do have to remember tho, the horses wouldn't be Alive if it wasn't for the races. They are treated like kings all their life and died doing something they loved!

It played out so much worse because Synchronised ran off pre-race and then the race was delayed while he was brought back, only for him to end up being shot

Surely there has to be something they can do to reduce the risk involved. They should cut the number of horses for a start, maybe Eurovision style semi finals a few weeks before are needed

Ha why not!

I know. It's almost as if Synchronised was trying to say something

The thing is they reduced the height of the fences to try and improve safety this year. It actually made it worse as the horses approached the jumps at a much greater pace.

Well, yes. But then is it fair to breed an animal for human entertainment when the risks are so high?

P.S. I wouldn't say the horses "love" racing. They are trained to do it, and know no different. Ex-race horses and the foals that don't quite make it on to the racing circuit have terrible lives - often becoming dog meat.

Not meaning to piss anyone off but I hope all those who are anti horse racing are also vegans who don't wear any animal products either.

*whistles and slowly walks away*

I just got off the phone from my ex who is going back to Spain tomorrow, people don't normally say 'love you very much' to their ex's before they hang up do they? Because I just did.

I'm a vegetarian. Veganism just seems impossible.

I understand the point you're making. And I know there's suffering involved with most farm animals. But I do think there's a slight difference between dairy cows and animals bred for human entertainment.

P.S. How General Discussion are we?

I'd rather not associate myself with the GD board, some horrible people there as I've found out the hard way.

I don't think I've ever posted in GD - I do sometimes read those boards for a laugh. I'm a terrible person.

I toyed with vegetarianism a few tears back but it just makes Christmas buffets so boring!

Why shouldn't we breed animals for human entertainment? It's not like they've got souls! And it's not like Simon Cowell doesn't breed humans for human entertainment!

I kid, I do have a sort of heart really.

Cow sure tastes good though.

People complain I'm a hypocrite when I complain about animals being shot, the truth is as long as you're going to eat it I don't see the problem. Shooting animals purely for sport is what makes humanity look bad IMO.
