OK, I take it back, the stage looks good lit up, especially from aerial shots.

![]() But we do seem to have 200 pole dancers in sparkly red leather outfits to make up for it...

Hello from Croatia! Had a Eurovision moment today, turned on the tv in our room and Aysel & Arash were on!
Hope you all enjoyed the closing ceremony, looking forward to seeing it when I get home |

Have I drunk too much, or have we just switched from Ed Sheeran killing Pink Floyd to Russell Brand killing The Beatles?
Why is there never anyone with a sharpened javelin handy when you need one? Edit: The audience pixel effect is amazing though! |

How Eurovision-ish did that Russell Brand performance look?

Oh my word.
And to think I accused Danny Boyle of being on drugs for coming up with the Opening Ceremony. I don't believe there can be a single ounce of narcotic left in London after David Arnold and Kim Gavin finished writing this hideous mess of a concert. Edit: Even Muse are painful to watch, and they're normally good live

Totally! It's great fun, just a celebration of our country if nothing else.
![]() There were some very good bits (Queen, Jessie J + all, Freedom, Kate Bush, etc) mixed in with some very bad bits (see above), and it took far too long for it to start feeling like any kind of party or celebration. And it seems Brazil know how to put on a good handover show, unlike our "Beckham on a Bus" from Beijing! |

How is letting Emeli Sande, Suggs and Ray Davis sing out of tune, while George Michael, Annie Lennox and Russell Brand mime a celebration? And that's before we consider wheeling out Fat Boy Slim in an inflatible octopus, or hiding supermodels in the back of a truck, or letting Ed Sheeran anywhere near a Pink Floyd song, or the whole ELO / Eric Idle bit?

OK, the whole bit with Take That, the pheonix dancing with Darcey and extinguishing the flame was excellent.
The Who are sounding surprisingly good doing the Greatest Hits of CSI as well! |

I felt sad watching the torch gradually fade out, what a fantastic fortnight that was.
7 years of built up and now it's all over.

Loved Russell Brand taking on Peter Hitchens earlier in the week on Newsnight but he's no Gene Wilder/John Lennon! (I loved the Jean Grey cameo.) |

I really enjoyed it. Wasn't a patch on the opening but still very fun and memorable. Would have liked a few more surprises like we did in the opening and less One Direction like we had in the opening.
It is quite sad to see it all end but at least the Paralympics aren't too far away. Once that's done it really is going to be quite strange living in a world without the games. For the last seven years it's been really hard to get away from the games, there'd be logos on food packaging and constant countdowns to the opening but now that's all going to be gone. It's going to be so weird. I'm actually going to miss that hideous logo. |

I think Modern Pentathlon is a great sport, it's nice seeing the athletes cope with such a wide variety of disciplines that don't just involve jumping a bit high, throwing something, or running quick.
And gottago: You're still wrong, the green colour is great and the Lithuanians have some cute athletes who wear it well ![]() Apparently, this might be the last Olympics with Modern Pentathlon... |
