She's still going to be around, taking over the Review show on Tuesday night I think.

One hour without talking about films, how will she cope?

I don't think she's the best presenter in the world but there are many worse.

Personally, I can't abide Fearne Cotton, Jo Whiley or Janice Long, for example.

I box she definitely ticks is being Scottish.

Scots have always been woefully under-represented on national radio, Stuart Henry and Alan Black being the last I recall on R1 along with Ken Bruce on R2, James Naughtie and Eddie Mair on 4 and Aasmah Mir and Colin Paterson on 5 Live.

I take your point about proportionality - but at less than ten percent of the UK's overall population, the Scots don't seem to be doing too badly. What really irritates me are people like Fearne Cotton, Jo Whiley and I would guess the lady in question. They appear to have been groomed into the roles they occupy rather than having been employed because of their existing capabilities. Jo Whiley freely admits to having never been in a studio before she was parachted into Radio one (The Nation's Favourite: The True Adventures of Radio 1).
Similarly, I would think that Fearne Coton has little experience doing much of anything before being foisted upon the BBC's listeners and viewers as a ready packaged, if entirely lacking in an any substance, product. This on the basis that she was a one time Disney Club contest winner who was allowed to appear on screen. Similarly, on the odd ocassion I've heard Miss Bowman, I just wonder how she ended up in radio.
At an odder level, I find myself wondering why the BBC is actively foisting unskilled non-radio, track-record-free females onto their audience ? Does this happen in other areas of presentation where boxes need to be ticked and numbers made up ?

I'm not a female seeking presentation work at BBC Radio, if I were though, I might be a bit miffed at what looks like a 'jobs for the girsl' policy' where the ability and experience deemed which are demanded of male presenters as a matter of course - even if their USP is in another shobiz field (and that's another issue) is a policy absent when employing female some presenters. Odd.

Thanks - I didn't know that, though I'm still baffled as to what she thinks she has to offer.

Thank god for that! Nihal's knowledge of music absolutely shits over Edith's knowledge! Can't stand her.

She's on a well deserved holiday for the next couple of weeks but she says starting on april 24 she will be presenting a 'brand new show' . So does that mean its going to be a completely different format? maybe she will be reviewing films as well a s music?
