Am I the only one who see's an obvious similarity between Elise and Haley?

Maybe not so much vocally but definitley stylistically and the way the show is pushing them, and also their "Idol journey".

Both had a couple of early dips into the Bottom 2 but managed to redeem themselves mid-Season (Elise with Whole Lotta Love, Haley with Rolling In The Deep), both have been compared to Janis Joplin/ told to sing a Joplin song at least once by the judges, both have took on a Led Zepellin track that really impressed the judges and both performed I'm Your Baby Tonight (and subsuquently ended in the Bottom 2 after it)

Also, I think they are both in the same position in terms of getting voters. Haley needed to deliver her A-Game every week to just stay out of the Bottom 3, something Elise is definitley having to do this year. I believe at the moment the best Elise can hope for is a 3rd place finish (I just don't think she has the fan-base of say, Colton or Philip, and is definitley not as hyped as Jessica, but could possibly out-last one of the above if it came down to it)

Wasn't a big fan of Haley's. Don't get the show pushing them part, care to elaborate how the show's pushing Elise? I agree that she doesn't have a big fanbase as most of the other contestants (especially the ones you mentioned) and needs to bring a great performance every time or she'll probably be in trouble. And if she does I think 3rd will be a reasonable place for her.

Sorry, by pushing I meant marketing- as in they were both marketed as kind of late 60's, early 70's inspired "Joplin-esque" vocalists- I didn't mean pushing as in thay were favoured by the show.

The one thing they don't have in common is that Randy seems to like Elise!

I see the similarities, but the big difference is that the judges actually seem to like Elise, whereas last year Haley was very rarely given the credit she deserved for her strong performances.

I actually agree that the show seems to be trying to make Elise *happen* and make her endearing to the audience which is fine by me, because she's one of the most talented finalists. You always tend to find that contestants who the show wants to do well tend to get little human interest segments in their pre-performance footage and post-performance interview, and Elise has been getting quite a few of those since her early bottom three appearances. (Students coming up to hug her on stage, singing with Stevie). She obviously isn't going to win, but I think that the show might be hoping to push her far enough so she can possibly get a record deal and career out of this!

I'm honestly surprised a thread like this hasn't come up sooner. I always seem to support the same kind of contestants as I loved Haley last year and knew she would be a success. Same with Elise this year. It's just a shame Elise is a bit older, and looks it, as I think with someone as fresh looking and young as Haley the young girls can get behind more.

I really hope that Elise goes far but there's no way she can win, much like Haley last year. I think she will finish 5th, maybe at a push 4th.

But I completely see the comparisons, singing the same songs, singing songs by the same artists, the first few weeks were bumpy in terms of what direction they were taking and they could have easily been eliminated early. She, like Haley, is definitely the 'under dog' or 'dark horse'.

However, what went against Haley in the end was the fact that she was no longer touted as the 'dark horse' because she emerged as the strongest vocalist in the competition, got the most standing ovations, and got the most youtube hits over 1 million out of anyone in the competition. It was when the novelty wore off at the fact she had almost gone in the early weeks, but as soon as one of the favourites (Lauren) landed in the bottom 2 over her, it all ended soon after.

I also have to agree with the above poster. Last year Randy really had something against Haley and it was frustrating to watch as a Haley fan as week by week they tried to throw her under the bus (she did choose some weird songs in the beginning...The Earth Song? Really??) and you could always tell that Steven Tyler absolutely loved everything about her but was being held back in terms of the compliments he could give her

I want Elise to win and wish her the best but think Phillip or Jessica have it in the bag (I like Jessica though ) but would prefer someone more 'different' to win

I do kind of see the similarity - their both my favourites in their season, similar vibes, similar song choices and both took a while for the audience to connect with them.

I hope Elise wins, but I don't see it happening - I reckon she'll probably come in 4th place, behind Colton, Philip and Jessica.

totally agree with you, just gotta point out haley’s first standout performance was bennie and the jets, she didn’t get amazing comment for ‘rolling in the deep’ sorry to be a pain haa

To add to the list, Elise took on you and i by lady gaga, also sang by Haley!
Smart move and sh may not be in the bottom three as it appeals to the younger generation

She may have got great comments for Bennie & The Jets but I remember Rolling Stone magazine saying her cover of Rolling In The Deep was a catalyst for Adele "breaking" America.

i find hayley far too conceited to enjoy watching, but she has more stage presence than elise.

The first time I heard that song was when Haley did it, then I heard the Adele version and didn't think it was as good

I've been thinking there were parallels between Elise and Haley for a while now and they are both my favourites of their respective Idols. Having said that, Elise has let herself down on a number of occasions whereas I can't remember ever being unhappy with a Haley number.

Also, whenever Elise has covered one of Haley's songs it's always suffered in comparision, in my opinion.

Still, I really like Elise. If she can get to third place I'd be happy.
