TV phone and Broadband packages
Tiggi

Hi, I am not very technical and am trying to save some money.

My phone and broadband is with BT and my TV is SkyHD.

I see that BT and Sky are both offering packages of all in one, phone, broadband and TV. I was hoping that if I go with just one provider I might save a little.

If anyone has experience or advice to pass on, I would be really grateful.

Thanks. Tiggs.

You need to bear in mind a few things.
With BT you'll get the BT Vision box and that requires a terrestrial aerial to receive the Freeview channels. You won't get any of the Sky movies or sports channels with it and no HD channels...you don't mention what Sky package you have (movies/sport) so this may or may not be a deciding factor.
You might also consider keeping Sky but changing your phone/broadband package to O2 who have very competitive rates and a great customer service.

We used to be with VM for their BB but switched to SKY when they had their 6 months free BB offer on. We didn't have a phone line when we were with VM as we didn't want one nor need one. At the moment we pay £60.50 but it will go up again when our half price movies and sports runs out then again when the BB offer runs out. So it'll cost us around £80+ pm when all offers end. We were paying VM around £21.50 for their 10MB BB and we're now paying £12.25 for line rental and it'll be £7.50 for the BB when the offer ends, so we're not saving much but still saving something.

See what offers SKY have available.

Bear in mind that companies like BT and Sky are out to make make more money out of you. Your aim and their aim are mutually incompatible!

All-in-one bundled packages are designed to tie you in to one company for all services. It's becoming increasingly difficult to pick and choose individial services, one-by-one the individual services are being priced up to make the all-in-one packages look more attractive. When you've got all your services tied into one company, they then start putting the prices up and you find it difficult to switch because they've tied you into a 12 month contract or the price goes up if you remove one of the services from the package.

Sorry for being so cynical, but that's the way it works!

First of all, if your aim is to save money, look at your TV service. Do you really need all those channels, or could you make do with Freeview or Freesat?

Thanks everyone for your advice. I don't have Sky sports as that just isn't my bag but I do like the movie channels and would like to keep them so might look into what Sky have to offer re phone and broadband.

My BT broadband contract runs out in June so I am just looking around until then.

It's difficult to advise because everyone has different priorities but i've just switched all to Sky.

Previously I had tv and broadband with them and the landline with BT. Was quite happy with this but the Sky deal of half price broadband if you took their landline,
with NO fair usage policy on the broadband, coupled with free calls to US landlines and mobiles, swung the deal.

Virgin were in the running with the fantastic speeds of the broadband but past experience, their bills NEVER match what they promise, and the things mentioned above, swung the deal.
