Evening.
Yeah. Alright...I'm late with this. Here's what happened - from my point of view, anyway - at Aaron and Faye's bungee jump last week...
It was a 6am start on Sunday to get to the bungee jump in Bristol. It was a horrific prospect to be up and travelling so early but it was gloriously sunny both on the way there and when we arrived just after 9am (plus Laura is thankfully a very good driver). On the way, Aaron Tweeted that he was feeling up and down but thought he would bounce back. Between us we came up with the reply, 'Actually, you sound a bit ropey.'
And here endeth the lesson on half-cocked bungee jump related banter.
We headed straight to where the bungee jump was taking place and have to say it was a nice spot for it, even if it was a little chilly. Right by the river, passing rowers, clear blue skies and the sound of church bells peeling in the background. After checking out the site we popped round through the square where the fountain and mirrored dome is. A big screen was showing the Grand Prix but it was only us, the odd dog walker and a statue of Cary Grant around to see it. I suspect it will have more point to it when the Euros and Olympics start.
After our mini-stroll by the harbour we headed back to the bungee crane and waited for Aaron & Faye to turn up. In the meantime a speaker was now blasting out some music, including 'Jump Around' by Cypress Hill. See what they did there? After a couple more tracks we turned and our jumpers making their way towards us, along with Aaron's mum and her husband. We all had big hugs, all being filmed on Aaron's camcorder for a video diary. Faye was smiling and looking excited for the jump while Aaron appeared to be giving it a bit of bravado. He was slightly hidden behind his aviators so it was hard to tell. Anyway, they went off to do the paperwork in the tent with the bungee organisers and got themselves ready in the waiting area. I tried to have shifty of the scales when they weighed in - it's the person's weight that determines what kind of rope they'll be attached to - but couldn't see. Although going by Faye's teeny waist she could possibly have done it on dental floss! She had to tape up her earrings with masking tape, which Aaron dutifully helped her with.
The woman from the Caudwell Children's charity - who Aaron and Faye were jumping for - arrived. She gave them their t-shirts and chatted with them...

She had a camcorder and was filming their chat and the jumps so that may pop up somewhere.
Aaron and Faye then got strapped in...

(It was also at this point that 'Moves Like Jagger' blasted out of the speaker. Seriously, it's turning into the creeping Jesus of songs. How does it know he's there?)
They took their seats and looked up at the jumpers ahead of them...

Faye was grabbing Aaron's arm and squealing a little as their go got closer. A little funny moment. As they were sat, waiting for their turn, Aaron unwittingly was displaying a bit of back end cleavage. Sorry...no photos! But his mum kindly pointed it out to him and he made a subtle move to cover his dignity. Although not before Faye had a cheeky look first! While still waiting for there turns they posed for photos, both for us and for a photographer I assumed was from the local paper...

Finally Faye's time to go up arrived and she bobbed over to the cage - she had to bob as her ankles were bound. She waved excitedly and up she went with Aaron squinting through the sunlight...

There were a few moments of stillness and then...

It was pretty quick. I was amazed I managed to get a half decent shot of her in the air. She was lowered down and safely unbound on a crash mat...

Then it was Aaron's turn and he did his own bobbed hop to the cage, but was by now looking a little greener than he did earlier...

The cage started to lift and...the batteries on my camera died. Nooooooooooooo!! Talk about timing.
Cue the theme to Mission Impossible - ba ba ba ba ba ba - I removed the old batteries, scrabbled through my bag to get new batteries, fiddled to get them from the packet - do do dooo do do dooo - put them in the camera, switched the camera back on, didn't work because I'd put the batteries in the wrong way round - dada daa dada daa da da - took the batteries out again, swapped them round, switched the camera on again, pressed zoom and pointed it to the cage... DAA DAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Remarkably I'd managed to do all of this cack handed tomfoolery before Aaron jumped. But my point and hope tactic didn't quite work out. Though, I got him pretty much post bounce...

He got himself unbungeed, with Faye looking on all proud...

...and then a big loving hug and smiles...

We all gathered together outside the tent, where I handed my donation over to the woman from the charity (I figured they'd given their money's worth!!), and Aaron and Faye went off to finish their video diary. Couldn't hear what they were saying - certainly not with that speaker right next to us - but they took turns to say something about their jump. When finished they had a big hug and Aaron picked Faye up off her feet for extra cute points. When they came back over I handed them a little gift...tea bags. Not as cheap as it sounds! They were specially tagged tea bags. Aaron and Faye then invited us to join them for drinks and a natter, which was terribly nice of them. We went to Lloyds by the harbour (being of normal height we were allowed in...) where Mandy gracially paid for the drinks. We did hear a little bit of murmering as a couple of those we passed on the way in recognised them. The chat was just about Big Brother in general (not just their series) and bits and bobs about what they have coming up. Though they were canny enough not to give too much detail as there's still a bit of secrecy involved and things still being 50/50, but all sounds good. Though I will tell you one funny thing. Mandy mentioned that, when BB12 started, there was a headline on one of the papers saying it was going to be "...the sexiest Big Brother yet!". From the other side of the table, Aaron quietly mused,"That was me."
After another round of big hugs (we did well on hugs!) we parted ways by the harbour at about lunchtime. Aaron, Faye, Mandy and Martin were as warm and lovely as ever. But it wasn't quite the end of our day in the west country. As we were nearby, we got back in Laura's car and hot wheeled it to Weston. We went for a stroll around the bits we missed last time, had a McDonalds (thought I'd try the chicken salad. Waste of time. Too much salad!) and then we stumbled across the very place that will be better known as Bar Zingers when it opens soon. It looks a decent place but I will admit that I think its location means it'll have less natural foot fall than neighbouring streets making passing trade that little bit harder to pull in. But hopefully if the publicity behind its opening is good and enough people give it positive word of mouth it will do well. So when it opens do your best to get down there if you can and spread the word.
I should say, it didn't take me all week just to write that. I was just caught up in a hold ups bonanza. I can be slow but I'm not
that slow!
