EE - Alfie's return has worked IMO, it was Kat's which was a disaster

Everyone keeps going on about how Kat+Alfie's return flopped etc etc, but if you think about it, it's only Kat's return which failed, because the writing has been shocking and she has been completely out of character compared to what we saw from 2000-2005. Whereas Alfie has returned exactly the same to the way he was in his original stint

I've been really enjoying his character sice Kat's been away - I think him, Roxy, Ray, Kim and Jean work really well behind the bar, they've brought some much-needed life back to the Vic, unlike Kat who's had a face like a slapped arse Haven't missed her at all tbh.

Alfie's character has improved hugely during Kats absense, it feels like he never left at all tbh

I really dreaded it when I saw they were returning. Most probably because I get a bit sick of those who think the grass is greener and when work dries up, they seem to be able to just walk back in. I don't like either of them. The baby storyline was a cheap shot of ingratiating them back into the hearts of the viewers - that failed. After that, it was just more desperation and the pairing of Alfie with Roxy now is just giving the sad sap Roxy [another] lifeline to cling onto.

Kat is certainly the underlying cause of the failure, but because the characters of Kat & Alfie are so heavily reliant on each other, she's probably dragged him down too, which is why I think they're both been let down.

Again, the writers are to blame for all of this...I'm guessing these are not the same writers who were around during their first stint.

I think we are now seeing the true, lovely Alfie we loved back in the day. I think the break we are having from Kat could be the making of Kalfie being brilliant again - it just depends how Kat coming back is written.

I pray that they give Kat a complete overhaul when she returns and just write her the way she used to be. I really can't stand anymore of their tedious on/off relationship. If I have to watch the "Alfie tries to be nice to Kat/Kat seems aloof but insists 'I'm fine!'/Alfie sighs despondently/Kat turns away and looks anxious" scene they seem to have had on circulation since their return I think I will gauge my eyes out and stab myself in the ears.

I agree, and no doubt the strain would once again lead to infidelity on Kat's part, and ultimately forgiveness from Alfie

I would like to see Alfie and Roxy made permanent, they work well together and its clear the actors have good chemistry. Kat can stay where she is.

They had awesom chemistry when alfie arrived but now it seems somewhat forced.Like someone on the writing team realised alfie had become too serious and sad around kat.So this period with rox is meant to revitalise him and reminds us of the alfie of old..But their antics feel contrived.

I think it would be better for all concerned if Kat never came back..

Alfie works better with Roxy and there is a nice little gang behind the bar of the Vic at the moment.

She'd only ruin that with her moods and her strops.

Spoiler

Both failed upon their return because of Kat's promiscuity- but Alfie changed too. He would never have allowed her to sleep around without his knowledge- he slapped her once for it back in the day. However, at least Alfie has retained some of his character whereas Kat is unrecognisable. Atm, I am loving Roxy/Alfie as it is saving Alfie's character- I just hope that they don't get together because Roxy is like Kat in a lot of ways so i can see her sleeping with other men.

Was an Alfie & Roxy affair always on the cards or has it just worked out this way? I think from watching their scenes that all this Roxy material was intended for Kat but with Jessie being written out they used Roxy to fill the gap?

This is true. People keep saying that she "cheated" on Sean, but when Roxy slept with both Sean and Jack, neither of the three was ever intent on becoming a couple. I believe she was genuinely unsure of who was Amy's father and believed it to be Sean - after all, she'd slept with Sean more than she had Jack.

So, Kat will have been unfaithful to Alfie and is lying to him this time around. Good. I hope this will be the beginning of her departure, and that Alfie will have a future with Roxy. I always said that Kat was on the road to Shirleydom, considering they made a point of comparing the two when Kat first arrived. So, like Shirley, she'll probably leave and dump whatever kids she had with Alfie ... just like Shirley.

kat was a good character when she was a drunken slapper

when she ' toned' down and had all that unbelievable baby story she got to be uninteresting and over acting

I agree with most of the above posts. I like Alfie and Roxy together. Wish Kat never come back. I'm dreading her return. She will just bring down all the life in vic and in walford.

If there ever was a picture for crap acting and crap storyline it is the current lot behind the vic. Annoyingly awkward Alfie dumb Roxy no purpose ray and crap acting overkill kim.

And kat would just round it off with her acting "skills" of being depressed 24/7

I have to agree. At first I thought they were better as friends, especially as she kept calling him "grandad" but I must admit Alfie and Roxy would now work brilliantly as a couple.

Perhaps Ben should have lashed out at Kat rather than Heather - only joking.

But I hope Kat is written out at some point or else that Alfie comes to his senses and divorces her so he and Roxy can be together.

Wow. Do you actually like anyone?

The setup in the Vic is loads of fun at the minute. Whilst the Kat's away and all that...

Yep...it's like playschool...no wonder Alfie is not making money. He's paying Roxy and Kim for doing nothing and seems to find it all hugely funny.

I think Alfie and Roxy work far better as a couple than he did with Kat before she left. The old magic between them two certainly faded when she became such a miserable mess. I certainly wouldn't frequent a pub with her miserabhle face behind the bar, for a start.

I'd rather that Kat didn't return at all, or if she does, it's to acknowledge that the marriage is over, and move away from the Vic altogether.
