but most smartphones are the same! play video, play games, play music...eg android are all the same!

Some are Vanilla Android
Some have Moto Blur
Some have HTC Sense
Some have Samsung TouchWiz
Sony have their own overlay
LG have their own overlay

Some have keyboards
Some have big screens
Some have little screens

or maybe an upgrade means a move to another OS ....

I used to upgrade regularly, but now I can't be bothered - especially seeing as now any phone I fork out for will be basically the same as the one I've got

Androids are not all exactly the same but the question is why do you upgrade ? I don't see people changing phones from sony to htc to samsung, etc just because they have a different interface.

though with screen sizes on the increase, i'm a bit more reluctant now. if the current iphone was all screen or thereabouts rather than the top n bottom chopped off, that would be my prefect size phone.
