Way better than any of the Tobey Maguire films in my opinion, couldn't stand him in the role, Andrew blows him out of the water. Also, Emma Stone is fantastic (as expected)

I'd actually forgotten about the Oscorp henchman! But this explains a lot of the trailer scenes that were missing and bugging me from the film. It annoys me that the makers seemed to have both eyes on the franchise, and subsequently botched the quality and narrative (IMHO). Oh, and as for the end credit sequence ...
Spoiler
As stated earlier in the thread, I was very disappointed by the film, but certain sequences did convince me that there could be a worthwhile sequel ... |

well .......
there was a fair amount of good stuff in it , but it really dragged , it seemed far longer than it was . and I thought Raimi's films were much better . so many plots seemed to go nowhere , it lacked energy and needed more humor , it did have some humor but at times in completely the wrong places - like when he's hunting down muggers who might be his Uncle's killer , he's making lighthearted jokes at them ! |

Emma Stone/Gwen Stacy was a much better actress/love interest. I was so sick of MJ and her snaggletooth whining all the time.

Saw this today. Took my Mum who absolutely hated the first 3 Spider-Man films (actually I don't think she even bothered with the third) but she loved this one! I thought it was brilliant and much prefer Andrew Garfield than Toby Maguire.
I see people saying they thought the first ones were more light hearted/funny but I actually found TASM to have a lot more laugh-out-loud moments? That said it's been a few years since I've seen the others. I enjoyed it though, looking forward to the sequel(s).

I agree completely on the humour. I found it far funnier and don't understand the comments stating the opposite and I re-watched the first 2 Raimi films subsequently to see how they compare. |

4/10 from me. Pacing problems, forgettable villain (also didn't like the look of the Lizard) and ridiculous things like the crane scene and the 17 year old love interest working at an advanced science company.
Much weaker than the first Raimi film imo. |

Reboot, rehash more like. What a pointless exercise in filmmaking, I don't understand the point of this at all. Scene by scene it was the same, only duller.

I think you need to re-watch the original because I don't think it's like that at all. |

I enjoyed this. I took my little Nephew along and he was sat in awe the entire time. I like Emma Stone the more I see of her, becoming one of my favourite actresses and I thought Andrew Garfield was surprisingly good (I didn't like him in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus).
I wouldn't say it was scene by scene. No wrestling scene in this version, no upside down kissing spider-man scene. No Child in a burning car in Raimi's or having dinner with the love interests family. That's just a quick example of how it's really not scene by scene. Some scenes are similiar, but done slightly different. The way Parker is bitten is different. A spider is missing in Raimi's version and it lands on Parker. It's Parker's own actions that lead to him being bitten this time. |

Essentially it is the same character with the same story but it was all told differently. |

They cast this Spiderman actor perfectly but the way he obtained his abilities and the humour wasn't as good as Raimi's films.

Saw the film today. Was decent, thought it was better then 1st and 3rd from Raimi's trilogy but not as good as the 2nd. For me Garfield was much better then McGuire. But the big problem was the Lizard as soon as I saw him all I could think was the Goomba's from the terrible Super Mario Live Action live in 93.

It was good but i felt like it was going over a lot of the same ground again, prefered the darker tone of this movie but the lizard looked like crap lol didnt like the aunt may in this one either, she wasnt really in it much, after uncle ben dies u dont really see her till the end again, better than raimi's in some aspects but not on others.

This has been commented on a lot in various forums, and was even mentioned before the release. I kinda agree (even though I thought The Lizard was better imagined than I feared it would be). Link below for those that don't get the reference ... http://nerdreactor.com/2011/11/30/th...ng-spider-man/ Personally I think that they should have gone with the Mcfarlane version with a more prominent "snout", like a crocodile. Much more threatening, although the version in the film is faithful to the first comic-book appearance. Incidentally, I've just played through the (XBOX 360) video game of the film, which is actually a sequel to the movie, and you get more of an idea about Connors motives and Peter's apparent resilience against "cross-species" transformations. Also, the dramatic scenes and plot-twists are better acted by the (unknown) voice actors, and have more of an impact on the narrative than in the film! Just my humble opinion folks!

Saw this movie tonight. All I can say is how fantastic it was. So much better than the Tobey movies. Loved the villain, but he could've looked a bit...better. Loved Andrew as Peter, he played him perfectly. Uncle Ben and Aunt May were perfectly played too. Dr. Connors was very well acted, and I loved his character. Gwen shocked me quite a bit too, as I didn't think I would like her playing the love interest.
I loved Flash, especially with his shirt at the end.

I just watched it. It was average but Emma Stone is definitely hot. Just wonder if she's born blond. Wikipedia says she was but I doubt it.
