Bluray player and Netflix

I trust I am posting in the correct place.

I have seen on tv the Netflix adds and I believe you can use a bluray player and a broadband connection to view films on the tv.

I have a Sony bluray model bpd-s370 which has a lan100 socket can I connect with this to my router which has ethernet sockets.

I assume a lan socket takes a differant plug to ethernet so are correct leads available.

Do you have to be on Facebook to sign up to Netflix or can you sign up direct.

Thank you.

The socket on the back of the Sony is ethernet. Though you could be pedantic and point out ethernet is not strictly speaking a description of a particular type of plug and socket

As to whether or not the Sony will actually stream from Netflix or not is another matter. It requires a bit more than an ethernet connection to your broadband router. The internet abilities of the Sony do not match those of a PC so you might not be able to connect to Netflix anyway.

It does have this Bravia Internet Video service but I can't see any mention of Netflix being available on that.

Possibly not on the BDP-S370 according to this
"Sadly 2011 models will not be getting Netflix. However, all 2012 models WILL be getting Netflix - it is planned to be around May that the update will be released to include Netflix."

The only way to get Netflix on a Sony BDP-S370 is to use unblock-us and sign up to an actual US Netflix account as currently the player is still Netflix supported in the US.
In the UK this player is not going to be supported due to DRM issues with the UK stream.

I can't see on UK sites that the model can use Netflix. It says it can on American sites which I guess is only for Americans unless you get a VPN.

You don't need Facebook.

You can buy a Sony dongle and go wireless.

LAN stands for Local Area Network. You can run a ethernet cable ((I read the info on amazon.co.uk)) from it to your router. Although it is easier to go wireless.

You may need to update your firmware.

I would get a VPN and change your DNS to get American Netflix as the UK version is rather poor and not worth getting.
