Vegetarian, be careful with food coloring

Today I learned something new. An insect is related to food coloring. Here below is the link for your reference. I think Vegetarian would need to be more careful in choosing their foods and drinks.

You can now get veggie food colourings. In some of them they now use beetroot instead of cochineal.

And parmesan. Seems half the people in Britain don't know it's not vegetarian. Including waiters at Le Manoir:-

There was also a time when Polo mints weren't vegetarian but after the mad cow disease episode it was put right - allegedly, I don't eat them so I'm not sure if they're still veggie friendly.

Do they still use beetles in cochineal? I assumed colourings are all from vast chemical vats these days

Another one that catches the veggies out is Worcester sauce as its got anchovies in.

I believe that Sainsbury's Basics Italian Hard Cheese is effectively a vegetarian parmesan. But the real thing is tastier (and more expensive).
