Worldwide, she outsold the #2 album by almost 10 million in 2011 so could experience an almost 65% fall in sales of the follow up and probably still be top of the worldwide albums chart. I mean, that's just crazy. Plus '21' has just gone 9x platinum in the US (for 9 million shipments) so Diamond is just round the corner. NO album even gets close to that these days let alone actually gets there (last happened in the pre-credit crunch year of 2004 and that album still hasn't actually sold 10 million whereas '21' will achieve that by mid-late Summer).

Rolling in the deep is according to Media Traffic (which I think only takes into account 10 countries) has RITD at #11 on the all time list, next week should be #10.
SLY is at #68 on the list,
Obviously sales aren't everything, but I think globally RITD will be more remembered than SLY.

Mj kind of peaked with bad in terms of creativity!! Surprisingly dangerous outsold bad but still mj couldn't make a good album after bad!! Madonna peaked with like a prayer for creativity wise but am suprised the sales aren't that great!! But then she had another peak creativity/commercially with ray of light/music era from 1998-2001 during that period!! Which did give Madonna back her popularity from her heyday!!

Adele's next album will be a collaborative effort with Shania Twain named "Songs from inside the black hole". Or so i suspect. She has said she hasn't even started writing anything since she finished 21.
There's absolutely no need for her to write anything at the moment. We haven't seen her since The Brits almost 2 months ago and yet this 14.5 month old album is still #1 on iTunes in 14 countries & #2 in 14 other countries! I really don't think anyone is expecting her to beat the sales of this album...no-one will in the future.
Whether she's already peaked creatively is subjective, but I like to think the sky's the limit in that regard.
I do think this is probably her peak in terms of sales. It will be incredibly difficult for her to match her current performance in the future, never mind surpass it.

You sure 21 is 9 times platinum in the US already? If so this is a staggering achievement in an era where record sales are much lower than a decade ago (largely due to the internet). Diamond certfication is inevitable which will put the album among the all-time list... meanwhile its six in the UK and i can see it heading towards top 3 before Christmas.

So hell yeah. 12 million sounds about right. And knowing Adele, that number might be in the first year of release.
Most likely she will never match these 21 numbers, but who cares? As was already stated, even with a 65% fall off, she will still end up with the top selling album in the world that year, easily.
The great thing about Adele is she had 19 as her first.. which won her two Grammy Awards and is multi platinum in the UK and US... so its not as if 21 is her first album and then everyone is waiting to see how her second does. Shes already achieved it.

It was just certified by the RIAA as 9x platinum. This is for shipped sales. MT (which does not count every country and only counts sales to end users, stands near 8.64 million in the US).

Yes, and another amazing thing is '21' will actually get to 10 million sales to end users (not just shipped out of the door to retailers that platinum/diamond awards are based on) quicker than the last album to be certified Diamond in the US, Usher's 2004 album 'Confessions'!
That album took over 4.5 years to get to 10 million shipped/Diamond and is still not quite at 10 million actually sold. It's looking like '21' will get to Diamond by the end of May, so approx 17 months after release!
I think if she takes her time with her new album and does something new there will always be a place for Adele.

How do you work out she is the most critically acclaimed, do certain stars give you more "critically acclaimed" points if they suck up to her music.
Yes she has sold lots of albums but thats the be all and end all of her, she offers nothing else whatsoever, a one dimensional artist who will have a very limited lifespan.
And how can you call her the most succesful artsit around, has she done a wold wide tour playing to millions.. No, has she earned the most money No... See to even be spoken about as even one of the most successful artists you sure need to fill some of these other categories first.
Selling tons of albums to randoms in supermarkets is the easy bit, following that up with something worthwhile that people wont forget is a totally different ball game.

She did this out of the public eye, w/o a big tour and w/o selling her soul to be the face of every product, including acne medicine. She doesn't date famous guys just for the publicity and she doesn't call the guys out by name after they dump her (again for publicity).

Why bring taylor into the topic, crazy thing to do considering taylor is in a totally different league and class to Adele in every aspect.
Most artists who has massive sales fall away, alanis and shania are 2 such artists who could never match the masterpiece record breaking album they each made.
But to be fair shania's album after come on over was also brilliant, but because come on over was such a masterpiece it was always gonna get ripped apart.
The one thing adele has in her favour is the lower quality of her music, both jagged little pill and come on over are legendary albums, almost faultless from start to finish it would have been impossible for either of those artists to ever top those albums. But 21 is no masterpeice and it sure is no legendary album so adele's songwriters have a good chance of matching the music on 21 or hopefully even improving on it to keep adele's sales going.
Its clear Adele is a pretty fragile person so if she does release another album and it flops she could end up going into a corner to never be seen again, but guess thats one of the problems of being successful.

Your opinion of what albums can be considered 'legendary' or 'a masterpiece' are just that, your opinion.
I am sure many out there consider 21 to be a masterpeiece, just as many won't, doesn't prove anything I'm afraid other than we all don't like the same things (thankfully).
