If I have a recording called "Dad's Army", it is easy to rename it "Dad's Army 1" because the cursor defaults to the end of the name. However, I cannot find a way of inserting anything into the name or of going to the beginning of the name to insert text. In other words, if I want to rename the recording "New Dad's Army", is there a way to do it without deleting the name and rewriting it?

As far as I know it is not - what you can always do is to make a new folder called "New Dad's Army" and move it to that.
I find Humax's logic with text editing confusing - if you want to change a Channel name you have to enter the new name from scratch and with recording names you can add but not delete or insert.
