Morning all.

I didn't get a morsel of chocolate for Easter - no egg, no bunny, no chicks - NOTHING! Still, trying to lose weight so guess it was all for the best. About to toast a hot cross bun for breakfast.

Muggins - lovely picture of Laura, so nice to see her so happy. Hope you and she enjoyed Easter.

No comment from me on what has been going on in other threads. Let's just say I love everyone on this one even though we may hold different opinions. Wonder if John realizes how much he is appreciated here.

Been up with the birds - dawn chorus getting louder every day. Saw a blackbird tugging with a dead leaf still attached to the plant. She finally won!

Just finished making some potato salad for our indoor barbecue today. I may be in the minority but I am so glad it has been raining. I really wasn't looking forward to trudging around the garden with the watering can. My tulips (Princess Irene and China Pink) are really popping and surprisingly the pink and orange look OK.

Have a lovely day everyone.

BOOK GROUP DISCUSSION

Please bump this post.

OK, votes now in. For those of you who are interested, we will read THE HELP by Katherine Stockert (sp?). I will post discussion questions on the 7th June and we can discuss it on the 8th. Hope that is OK.

The next book (as The Help won by 1 vote) is DARK FIRE by C J Sansome. May I suggest that we aim to finish this by the 16th August - we can then discuss it on the 17th. Of course if you want to leave it until the first week in September, we can.

Hope this meets with everyone's approval.

I am happy to prepare discussion points for both books.

Thanks Annie - that's great Thank you again for the work you are putting into this. I've put the dates in my diary. They seem ages away but I expect time will fly by in its usual way!

Your tulips sound lovely - and I agree with you, we needed some rain.......

Have a great day everyone

Well, I can recommend Helman and Princess Irene. Lovely to look at and easy to grow. I put cayenne pepper on the bulbs and the squirrels didn't get them. Yeah!

Off to do the ironing. Have a good day

It's nowhere near a train station but then very few places in this area are. There's just one place that's on a commuter line to Paddington - you can imagine the hike in house prices to get anywhere near there.

It's a beautiful house by the way - the kind that may have been sold by Tuesday when the agents' office is next open, before it's even fully on the market.

Have a good day - any plans?

how is the house hunting going? Have you come to any proper decisions?

My guess would be if its that good, it will go quickly so you might have to make a quick decision......

If you like it enough???

Hi ucra

I did kind of start a blog last year when we were speaking about this. It's on WordPress which seemed easy to use, and has lots of writers.

However, as far as I can recall I don't think I actually wrote anything on it. I got a bit low around the time I was being made redundant, and felt that I didn't have anything interesting to write about (although I know I do, if I could let myself go )

I also registered for a creative writing course, and started writing in advance of it - however, I began to bore myself , so why would anyone else want to read my stuff?? So I didn't do the course and now I'm obsessed with house-hunting.

This retirement malarkey is not going to plan at all

Hi marion

We do like the house enough.....it's just frustratingly 'out in the sticks'.

I am a Londoner by birth and was brought up in the Midlands. I have always lived in cities and love them - what to other people may sound like noise, can be a lullaby to me

So 'the sticks' isn't really my bag - but it's where we can afford, so far as we can see at the moment......so no, haven't decided yet

Okay guys, new idea ......thinking now of selling up and moving out with a suitcase (slight exaggeration, there ) to a small furnished flat, to lick our wounds and wait to pounce with cash when a suitable property comes up. Might also help us reach decisions about what's most important to us.......

Sorry for going on so much......I will take an interest in other things, I promise

Offski now (as Ali would say) to help a friend's son with his job application......I'll read the application while OH gives him a mock interview..

See, we can think about something else

Dont be discouraged, you have just retired.I went through this myself and it took me a long time to finally commit to it.It is only that I got into the course and saw others react to my work that I finally realised I had something to offer.Do your house hunting and when the move has settled down then there will be a void. You can only do it when you are ready.

I have come across WordPress and I am going to look into it further. Thanks

Good luck with your writing - I have certainly enjoyed the things you have been kind enough to share with us here

Retirement certainly doesn't go to plan. The only thing I accomplished when I had to retire (enforced retirement due to bad health) - was that I went through each and every file and almost gave my little paper shredder a nervous breakdown.

Nothing ever does go to plan, but just try and not let it bother you - easier said than done.

I've been looking at all the home magazines. We are getting a new bed for the guestroom and new handles for all our doors - 30 in all. Sad isn't it.

Lindy, as you know I don't drive anymore but long before I couldn't we found it was cheaper for me to take taxis instead of owning my own car. Our taxi company gives a senior discount. Don't know if this is of any help but you might want to investigate it.
