Wrath
by JC Wilsher Tuesday 3rd January, 8pm, Channel 4 It’s junior barrister Harry Hewitt’s first day at Snaresbrook Crown Court, under the guidance of Judges Layton, Allinson and barristers Thomas and Wingfield. He’s seconded to a murder case involving a child killer, in which the defendant Martin Hinton, denies any charges. Thomas’s daughter is missing and Hinton’s behaviour strikes a chord with him, while Wingfield suggests Thomas has personal motivations to put him in prison. Layton takes Hewitt under his wing. Allinson is stressed and is threatened with the sack unless she gets a result, so she orchestrates collusion between the two defendants to influence the outcome of the trial. The final outcome from the jury is that the trial has been adjourned after Layton discovers Allinson has told Hinton to falsify evidence. |

Brutal Minds
by Edward Canfor Dumas Wednesday 4th January, 8pm, Channel 4 The fallout from the murder case continues as Layton is taken off the next case after adjourning the trial following the collusion. Allinson takes advantage and takes charge of a case in which Sandra Higgins, a care home owner, has been charged for actual bodily harm of elderly patients, while a brave woman testifies against Higgins about brutality in the household. Allinson looks pensive. An eyewitness twists the woman’s story and agrees with Higgins. Meanwhile, the attack of a cameraman who filmed at a care home arouses Allinson's suspicions. But what will the verdict be for Higgins? Guilty or not guilty? |

Channel Reception
by Tom Needham Friday 6th January, 8pm, Channel 4 1 hour special. Hewitt assists Wingfield in a case in which he defends BSkyB, represented by James Murdoch, who are trying to justify a botched takeover of Virgin Media, represented by Tom Wall, but beneath the surface of the botched takeover lies a phone-hacking scandal. Hewitt discovers representing Murdoch goes against everything he believes in, but he learns a harsh lesson from Wingfield. Thomas is jealous about Hewitt being looked after by Wingfield, and tries to undermine Thomas. The tension between Allinson and Layton rises. |

Hustlers
by Katharine Way Tuesday 10th January, 8pm, Channel 4 Thomas investigates a case of benefit fraud. Harry Walkinshaw was falsely claimed incapacity benefits and Hewitt is starting to question whether he's fit for the job after finding himself defending the defendant twice. Walkinshaw's wife has been detained in custody at a police station after illegally renting slum units in their garden to immigrants, revealing a web of deceit and exploitation. Will Walkinshaw get his just desserts? Allinson is concerned for her husband, who is in a care home, following the abuse case, and she starts to feel guilty when he is rushed to hospital. |
