Good to hear I was worried they might change the gameplay completely.

I didn't really know how much i missed Max until i played this. I've not touched multiplayer yet, but the single player campaign is excellent. Some fantastic set pieces and great shoot-outs, and most importantly, it feels like Max Payne.
Really glad i bought this now. |

It certainly does feel like a Max Payne game I agree, quite surprised by that as I was expecting something a little different in the gameplay department (aside from the cover system). It's super violent, I almost cringe at some of the damage you can inflict upon the enemies hehe, they certainly made sure they earned the 18 certificate.
I'm a few chapters in and it's quite fun, the controls are solid (needed a bit of tweaking for me) the cover system isn't perfect but I hope not to rely on it too much as that would be uncharacteristic of a Max Payne game anyway. Graphics are ok too, I miss the 60fps gameplay from the MP games that I've recently been replaying on Xbox but I guess that's to be expected (or is it?). 7/10 for me so far, only up to Chapter 5 so it might get really good yet. |

I'm partway through chapter 6
My opinion in tone and storytelling its max payne 3 but in terms of gameplay i'd honestly liken it more to an uncharted game minus the solving puzzles of course, some of the set pieces upto this point have been incredible i hope it can continue to out do itself as the game continues |

Okay major problem number 1
From the instruction manual: if you are fatally wounded with a painkiller remaining, you'll have a few second before you die to take out the enemy who shot you. if you manage to kill him you will consume a painkiller and regain a small amount of health to keep fighting This statment is not true and they are lying or the game needs a major patch, i've already on the first day lost count of the number of times i've been killed with 2/3/4 pain killers left and not only that it has on many ocassions been the last enemy that has killed me from a foot away, why i am not being given the opportunity to fight back that rockstar themselves have promised |

Would it be a huge loss if I haven't completed the first game and never played the second one?

Normal and its stupidy hard to get through a fight without dying, i never realised max payne was in the same category as ninja gaiden and devil may cry for toughness I'm sure once i get use it i'll be able to form better tactics and i won't even need to save myself anyway, its just i've got so used to regenerating health its hard to go back |

Played a fair bit of it now but it hasn't "clicked" with me in the same way as the earlier MP games. Not tried multiplayer yet, is it any good? or is it like Uncharted?

I had couple of quick goes on multiplayer last night. I can't really give too much info, because, being new, i had limited choices to both load outs and game types.
For a 4 vs 4 game mode, team death match seemed like carnage with bullets and explosives flying everywhere.I can't begin to imagine what the 18 player game modes that you unlock at later levels are going to be like.Still not sure how the bullet time works. From what iv'e seen, there's some sort of level system in which you can unlock level 3 bullet time in the game. I didn't use it much because, being a noob, i just ran around spraying walls , and random scenery in a desperate attempt to kill someone .I did have a lot of fun, and a couple of my friends are getting this soon, so I'll play some more then. Can't comment on on the similarities of uncharted as I've not played any of them online. |

Maybe your enemies are getting fatal shots on you, especially from a foot away as you mentioned. |

What's the deal with scoped rifles? The move/look controls are fine but whenever I use a rifle scope the left stick is suddenly used to look vertically - and it's not inverted!

I'm only on chapter 4 at the moment but the story seems quite easy to follow so far, but Iv'e no idea whats going to happen later or why he has shaven his hair? To answer your previous question, i think you don't need to play Max Payne 1 or 2 to enjoy this. Previous story lines have nothing to do with the storyline of this one except the fact that Max is suicidal, doesn't give a f**k and is a alcoholic due to his bad fortune in the past and the death of his daughter and wife. Can't play anymore just now until the little ones are in bed. |
