Just watched The Wanted's performance on American Idol in the U.S last night on You Tube. They sounded absolutely awful. The staging etc and them moving around was fine, but they sounded terrible and the whole thing came across a bit cringy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-f7hvIHRvA

I actually think it's the best they've sounded in a while, which is still average.
I didn't cringe half as much as I normally do.

I thought it was a good performance. It's really not that bad. I wish them well in the US. I kinda hoped they debut a new song on AI.

it was by no means amazing, but it was good.

glad to see them doing well. I hope they can sustain this success. Glad You Came is a great song that would allow any act to have great success, I hope the group can really benefit from the song's popularity

They are atrocious and useless. The only reason they have had success is that their label buys it for them. Their continued existence is excruciating and embarrassing.

They're so...pedestrian.

I still just can't get over how they look like 5 random guys pulled out of a nightclub toilet queue and given a record deal.

The arrogance of one or two will be their downfall... You can only have such an ego if you really have talent and I can safely say no boyband will ever be in such a position.

I wouldn't kick them out of bed, I'd keep all 4 with me, the little one though could do the filming.

Even America does it, so you can drop such a statement... Only difference is the US are right suckers for boybands. Not to mention when the artists took such a career which will give them fame and fortune, people being critical of your music being crap is part of it... Especially when they are arrogant about it.

At least they are brave enough not to hide their live singing voices. One direction normally gets a loud backing track to drown out their vocals.

Not when they did the Today Show, they did it with a live band. Same with their theatre tour.

(TW) The performance was ok, but the dancers made it a bit cringey.

You had to have a dig at 1D didn't you? At least they have a tiny bit of talent and practiced on thier voices unlike the wanted who sound just as bad as they did in 2009

Their novelty is wearing thin, going into the audience, kissing the women in the audience, singing directly to Ellen/J-Lo it's very unoriginal. The singing was ok and had it not been on a singing talent contest wouldn't have shown their weakness as much as singing on a normal tv show.
I don't think Steven Tyler was impressed imo with them based on his expression and lack of interest even when they were all swarming around the judges table.

I know! completely agree. Even by boyband standards they are completely medicore at best. All the good British acts over the years that havent made it in the US, or even been promoted there, but somehow this awful group gets a hit there...embarassing! This performance was actually good compared to the previous ones ive seen of theres...not thats saying much to be honest. No charisma, poor singing, arrogant, songs not brillant, alright looking, no stage presence, cant even dance to compensate. im not a fan of one Direction, but I can see why girls would like them and their songs arent bad but this lot...no I dont get it.

I think i cringed more at the way Nathan (I think that's his name) was getting on. It was like he thought he was much bigger than he is. Vocals were a bit shakey too

It just doesn't make sense , they're not even good and yet get a prime gig on AI

Only the young guy I think it's Nathan had good vocals, the guy that sang the 2nd verse was atrocious and the curly haired guy looked like he had just wandered on stage by mistake!

They are one very Lucky bunch of guys, and I feel sorry for people who pay to see them live!

They usually can sing, this was shocking. Maybe it's cos it's a relatively hard song to sing live. Whenever they sing All Time Low, they always nail that one.
I think the fame has gone to Tom's head. Especially in the video as well.

It makes perfect sense to me the reason to their success... It's happening because they are being forced upon America. Their manager happens to be the same bloke who is behind Justin Bieber, that's the reason they are making on appearances on American idol and Ellen... Their manager has pulled alot of strings.

I think the cyclical nature of popular trends meant that boybands and pop music in general was coming back to America through the likes of Katy Perry and Lady GaGa and now The Wanted and 1D have used the gap in the market to fill the boyband niche in the pop sector, both are very lucky more than anything else.

It's good that a couple of Brit bands are leading this but i feel bad for the superior groups of the past like Take That,5ive,Blue,Busted,McFly who didn't get a look in as America had their own boybands to pay into or the timing was out for Brit boybands as boybands died in America along with NSYNC in 2002 bar a fleeting interest in the Jonas Brothers.

Despite their egos perhaps not allowing for it, both 1D and The Wanted should accept a lot of their success in America is right place right time. I mean a lot of articles from the US are now reminising about BSB,NSYNC,NKOTB etc a few years ago they were the punchline to an industry joke in America and looked at as an embaressing blip in US pop culture, now all are being written about in renewed glowing nostalgia. The Wanted's vocals don't stand up alongside US boybands and this will probably push them out of favour.

I like how you call them pedestrian without marketing and a stylist what would 1D be i think all you people need to realise how either of these frankly average bands has had success is well frankly astounding.
