There are alot of great folky acts around at the minute..

First Aid Kit
Katzenjammer.
The Tallest Man on Earth
The Decemberiest.
Okkervil River.
Of Monsters and Men.
Phosphorescent.
Rural Alberta Advantage.
April Smith.
Fleet Foxes.
Ben Caplan.
Blind Pilot.
Bright Eyes.
The Civil Wars (Although they've split recently).
Deer Hunter.
The Miserable Rich.
Punch Brothers
Villagers.

However Mumford and Sons are utterly dire.

Exactly! If you are forgetting them but including Natalia Kills, who has never had a hit anywhere then you need to double check your posts!

Also, I think we are seeing a "British invasion" in that there is increased interest in British music. UK albums seem to be doing especially well.

There is no invasion, just a couple of acts (Adele, M&Sons) doing very well and a handful of others doing *quite* well.

I do think it's a pity we can't have some *decent* acts doing well over there, like the actual British Invasion of the 60s.

You're right. Mumford and Sons are just as good as The Beatles and the Stones.

Mumford & Sons, the 21st Century version of Status Quo, their music sounds the same. If I hear another flaming banjo playing semi-quavers, I swear I'll scream!

Imho, I'd much rather buy an old Duran Duran album or a new rock / metal album than to buy anything from the modern chart. The last album I purchased from a British band was the new Bullet For My Valentine album & I may get the new Sterephonics album next week, but I will have to listen to it on Spotify first of all. Yes I am aware that both BFMV & Sterephonics are Welsh.

I find the majority of UK Top 40 artists / bands that awful that I change the channel whenever they come on. Hell I wouldn't even illegally download the majority of UK artists / bands in the Top 40 as they would be a waste of space on my computer / mobile phone

Admittedly I did purchase Professor Green & Emile Sande - "Read all about it" & Tinie Tempah ft Eric Turner - "Written in the stars". I have heard both their albums & am not that keen on them. In fact even Emile Sande singing "read all about it" on her own, gets the remote treatment.

Other than that I mainly listen to the likes of Scuzz / Kerrang for new albums and if an upcoming band / artist or current band artist, regardless of where in the world they are from, produce material that I like, then I will gladly support them.

No, all Mumford & Sons tracks sound the sam as Mumford & Sons tracks, and all Status Quo tracks sound the same as Status Quo tracks.
