Jack Daniels..how do you drink yours?

A couple of weeks ago I would have said either straight or mixed with coca-cola as 'fashionable.' However I braved out tonight and am trying the JD mixed with pure water and I have to say it's a nice difference to the usual.

The mixture is bland, doesn't burn my throat after a while, and the coldness of the water helps bring out the texture more.

Anyone else drink it like this aswell?

Straight, sometimes with a bit of ice. Coke shouldn't be anywhere near JD.

Don't be a whisky snob. It's a matter of taste.

A good spirit drinker will still be able to tell a good whisky, gin or whatever even when it's mixed.

I drink JD but I also drink gin and even with tonic I can still tell Gordons from Tanqueray or house gin when mixed.

I absolutely can't stand the harshness of neat spirits other than liquors so the only way I can enjoy JD is by mixing it with coke. I don't see anything wrong with that. But I don't buy the No7, I buy Gentleman Jack or for Christmas i'll get treated to the Single Reserve. I only drink the No7 if i'm out. I don't see the point if i'm just drinking it for necking purposes.

It depends on how i'm feeling.
Usually with coca cola. Other cola doesn't taste as nice.
Sometimes with lemonade or sprite.
Once in a while with ginger ale. That's quite a nice little cocktail.

It's even worse if you are mixing the good stuff with coke.

Just because I have an opinion doesn't make me a snob.

either straight with a bit of ice or with coke. not heard of adding water to jd before only the other whiskeys people have added water to it.

i wouldn't mind trying out the gentlemans jack or single reserve stuff if i can find it for a good price.

i only seem to see the n07 only sold in shops.

But you didn't jugt say you prefered it neat. You were basically trying to say that people shouldn't mix it with coke or that coke shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a JD and that by doing so it's somehow wrong and i'm simply saying that it's up to them. Personal taste. If you like it neat then fine but I wouldn't decry others who want to drink it with coke. That's perfectly fine too. I don't see anything wrong with that if that's what you like. Decrying others for wanting to mix it with coke does make you sound a bit snobish tbh.

Sainsburys do Gentleman and Reserve. They had it in 2 weeks ago when I last stocked up.

Don't really like JD, I like the sweet and mild Irish whiskeys like Jameson with a dash of ginger ale.

I don't care what people say, I mix it with Coke, ice and lime juice

Double JD and Coke (the real stuff, out of the glass bottles, not the piss out of pub taps) has always reminded me slightly of Dandelion & Burdock, and has consequently gone down just as easily...

That's nice i'm so pleased for you. But why did you bother to join in a thread titled Jack Daniels, how do your drink yours just to let us know that you don't even drink the stuff and prefer Irish whisky instead? Hmmmm.

It's a bit like joining in a Star Trek appreciation thread letting everyone know how you much prefer Star Wars.

JD Is RANK

I start off with a 70cl bottle of JD it usually goes like this

JD+coke 20 % JD 80% coke with ice

This goes on for 1/2 the bottle

It then goes 50/50 JD coke with ice
It then get to the stage I just dispense with the coke and have JD with ice.

Then the last dregs neat from the bottle.

dispense with the ice the glass, everything.
