I was thinking back to Series 4 of the Apprentice, does anyone remember the big post firing row between Lee, Michael, Alex and Jenny versus Raef, Clare, Lucinda and Sara where the first four laid into Sara?

The clip above contains the argument. I watched the full episode back and personally, I think it was bullying. Lee's body language in particular is very agressive and having watched it, the only people to come out looking good are the four I mention arguing with Lee, Alex and Jenny. The whole thing was utterly stupid as Sara did contribute to the task whilst Alex who laid into her did zilch and IIRC, Kevin had made zero contribution previously anyway.

Did you think she was bullied?

It was certainly an ugly incident. Lee and Michael's intervention was especially stupid as they had been in the other team and knew nothing about Sara's contribution. And if anyone other than Kevin deserved to be fired it was Jenny C.

My memory is hazy but was Sara's idea not a card for a Muslim festival or something similar which sounds like a much more original idea for a card?

Not trying to be mean but don't you think this four years too late?

Having said that, I 100% agree. This was one of the episodes that made me truly hate Jenny Celerier. She ignored Sara's ideas all through the task, made snarky comments ("I'm not going to target the smallest possible market am I?") comes up with arguably the worst-possible idea for a card and then, in the boardroom, realising she's in the s**t, she scapegoats Sara. I think that when all the candidates named her as the one to be fired, that was bullying for me.

But I agree that the ugly argument when she came back was just horrible to watch and it amazed me that Lee (who seemed quite likeable before this incident) was so aggressive. He later said on You're Hired that he was feeling the pressure about being PM next week and was worried that people wouldn't contribute and they would go.

What really annoyed me about the incident was Jenny C's reaction to anyone who disagreed with her. Jenny M said she would fire Kevin and Jenny C was like "AND NOT SARA!?", whilst she attacked Claire when she made the reasonable point that they didn't lose the task because of Sara's alleged lack of contribution (A great point which Sara raised in the boardroom and saved her from a firing)

It was bullying and it partly turned people against Series 4. Raef's admirable defence of Sara kickstarted his popularity in the series, whilst Lee's attack turned people off, particularly when his nasty streak returned later in the series against Lucinda.

So, I feel quite strongly about this and I don't think you'll find many people who will argue it wasn't bullying.
Wow, this is bringing back memories about Jenny C. God, I hated her!
Series 4 wasn't a classic considering it had Alex, Helene, Sophocles, Jenny C, Jenny M, Kevin, Lindi, Ian and NDLB in it and this was an ugly incident that proved just how horrible some of the candidates were.


Yeah, she came up with the idea. It was a good niche, but it wasn't an event, which is what they had to come up with. She did go on to suggest a Pet day, which I thought was a great idea...

Jenny Celery's non-stop quest to make everyone who disagreed with her about anything feel like shit was the worst part of a pretty wretched series.

(I did find it amusing that they didn't have everyone mic'ed up properly, given that you can't even hear of half of Raef's White Knight'ing. Would never happen now.)

I think it was just a bunch of candidates who had some clearly noticeable unpleasant qualities being overly aggressive and already covering their arses for future task failures and boardroom appearances. I think the mob mentality did cross the line of bullying, especially with Alex also dying to get his dig in aswell and being put out that Raef stopped him in his tracks.

To be fair, I think when Lee was snarling 'If you don't perform you're out....' I thought he was talking in a general sense rather than just at Sara.
Anyway, Sara appeared to forgive him during You're Hired and has likely forgotton about it now.

I don't like some of the comments under the video bringing race into it though. I don't think it's necessary, I think it was simply because Sara was seen as weak.

Claire or Sara should have said that Sugar was really wanting to fire Jenny instead. lol Then watched her go mental.

Oh jeez that moment... Probably sticks out as one of the nastiest moments in the whole Apprentice UK series and then some. Ive seen it happen a few times too in the US version (though I forget who and which seasons now...) and this still somehow beats those moments

absolutely disgraceful behaviour given the show they are competing on as well - no professionalism whatsoever! Jenny and Michael didn’t surprise me (ironic they picked on her considering they were the 2 weakest candidates) but Lee’s aggressive outburst shocked and disappointed me - really went off him here. Was lovely of Raef to step in though! Wonder what LS would’ve thought if he had seen that back before hiring Lee!

Remember that made my blood boil. They are talking about her like she isn't even there

Anyway in the early episodes (and generally throughout) Lucinda got it far worse unfortunately. I met her a couple of times when we both worked in Edinburgh (not sure if she is still there) and she was exactly like you saw her on the programme. Little bit kooky mad and an utter utter sweetheart.

One of the few times I have met someone off the telly and they have surpassed my expectations. Still one of my all time favs.

Yes, she was bullied by Jenny Celery. Lucinda was Jenny Celery's first target, then Sara was Jenny's next target. Alex, Claire, Helen & Lee were all involved in the bullying. However, after Marakesh things were a bit better for Sara.

They were like animals firing into her. When I first saw it I just thought "What a bunch of arseholes" and a lot of people forgot about Lee's sh*tty beahviour that particular week.

Yes, Jenny laying into Lucinda on the laundry task was horrible too. She was an awful PM that task. I still think Shazia being fired instead of Jenny that week is Lord Sugar's worst decision in the history of the show.

However, re Lucinda, I don't think she did herself any favours. She seemed a bit too inclined to play the martyr. And her incompetence on some tasks, like the computing, must have been pretty annoying.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to criticise, but my first thought was that it was an article written in the aftermath of the incident.
I intended the comment as a joke and as you can see, I wrote a whole post contributing to the thread so I was in no way intending to criticise the whole thread.

I always hoped that Sara would have done a little bit better than she did. She just got eaten up by the bigger personalities and never really found her moment to shine. I think SAS thought she was annoying and talked too much.

She became visibly less confidant as the show went on. By the time she went she'd almost faded away to nothing.

And, indeed, the laundry task, when she was still folding clothes when they were about to be kicked out and had no time for that.

Ugh I'd forgotten about that incident, it makes for such horrid viewing. I think they behaved like a bunch of hyena's!

The laundry task was the beginning of Jenny's hatred towards Lucinda & Sara. Remember the argument in the car when Sara defended crying Lucinda? I think Sara said something like "don't just attack her (Lucinda), we need constructive criticism here".

Yeah, it was "You take one side of the story and just attack" I hated Jenny Celerier, but Lucinda is my all-time favourite candidate and as people say, she got it just as bad, if not worse throughout the whole competition. She tried to defend herself towards the end but Lee and Alex just interpreted this as aggression.

One of my pet hates is the use of the word 'bullying' every time someone on tv has a disagreement with someone else. Not because I don't think bullying isn't a serious problem - quite the opposite, I know it can be a truly horrendous experience - but because using the word when describing a load of people squabbling like toddlers devalues its meaning. Having said that, this was a pretty revolting incident and the sheer vitriol coming from Lee, Michael and that woman whose name I can't even bring myself to type probably does tip it into bullying territory.

I can't believe any of them actually had fans... and I had to go back and check that Lee actually won because my brain still can't quite process it.

Indeed, late on in the series Lucinda ended up moaning when given a task by whoever was the PM, effectively wanting the PM to hold her hand.

Quite dislikeable series, although best was Jenny C being found out over her lies by LS & brutally fired. Nick did praise Sara in the Boardroom after one of the tasks.

Dunno if she was bullied (I think it gets thrown about so often on these forums it's cheapened the word, tbh) but it was a very nasty incident, and it was a good thing the lovely Raef was there to step in and shut them all up.
